Mrs. Mary June Stewart Gilbert, age 63, of Glen Allen passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in the Northwest Medical Center. Mrs. Gilbert was born on May 4, 1959 in Winfield, AL to James Frank and Annie Florence Beasley Stewart. Mary was a member of the Glen Allen Methodist Church and attended Hubbertville High School. She and her husband Billy owned and operated Gilbert Pawn in Fayette for more than 34 years. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed shopping, playing cards, sewing, and spending time with her husband on their back porch. One of Mary’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her husband of 47 years, Billy Gilbert, son, Billy Edward Gilbert Jr. “BJ” (Cayla), daughter, Fallon Nacole Gilbert (Lyle Atkinson), grandchildren, Billy Kohl Gilbert (Jayden), Billie Nikole Gilbert (Andrew Myhan), Brysen Taylor Gilbert, Bentley Slate Gilbert, Dakota Kruz Box, and Memphis Kash Boman, great-grandchildren, Billy Karter Gilbert and Ellie Ann Myhan, brothers, Jerry Stewart (Shirley) and Truman Stewart, sisters, Bobby Mullins (Bob), Louise Aldridge, and Betty Marcum, special extended family members, Brooklyn Boman, JD Boman, Auburn, Braden, Bentley, and Chloe Kivette, and Liam Atkinson, her fur baby, Mollee, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert, Henry, Billy, Charles, James, and Joe Stewart.

A graveside service for Mrs. Gilbert will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kelley Cemetery near Eldridge. The body will lie in state at her home from Saturday afternoon until service time on Monday.

Mrs. May Doris Mayfield McDonald, age 79, of Millport formerly of the Hubbertville community passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. Mrs. McDonald was born on July 9, 1943 in Fayette County, Al to Leslie and Hassie Tidwell Mayfield. She was a 1962 graduate of Hubbertville High School; she devoted her life being a homemaker and caring for her husband and her daughter. In her spare time, May enjoyed watching professional wrestling, going to the beach, traveling and staying on the go, and visiting her family and friends. She was well known for never meeting a stranger.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her daughter, Melissa Taylor and her husband Terry, grandchildren, Dani and D.J. Taylor, brother Roy Lee Mayfield, brothers-in-law, Jerry McDonald and David Collins, sisters-in-law, Dean Davis (Dwaine) and Anna Watkins (Gary) and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. McDonald, father-in-law, J.C. McDonald, mother-in-law, Verna McDonald, and sisters-in-law, Mae Belle Mayfield, Donna Collins and Nancy McDonald.

Funeral services for Mrs. McDonald will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the White Springs Methodist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Lucille (Lucy) Munger Gosa, age 74, of Notasulga, AL, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL.

Lucy was born on June 19, 1948 in Moline, IL, to the late Roy and Mina Stanley Munger. She was a seamstress for Reltoc, Coy Glenn, and Health-Tex. She continued working at home for many years after her retirement. She served as the Pastor of the First Assembly of God in Notasulga, AL for 20 years, she was a member of Philadelphia Deliverance Tabernacle in Lynn, AL and Full Gospel Fellowship in Vernon, AL. Lucy was saved on Easter Sunday, preached her last service on Easter Sunday, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife, pastor and friend, she continually shared her love of the Lord until her passing.

She was survived by her children, Melissa Gosa Bagley (Tom) of Notasulga, AL, Sheila Gosa Bostick (Wayde) of Hamilton, AL, Rick Gosa (Michael) of Montgomery, AL, Cynthia Gosa Rasberry of Conway, SC, and Judy Gosa Barnett (Dexter) of Brilliant, AL, grandchildren, Regina Carr (Ephram), Amanda Dove (Eric), Amy Davis (Craig), Jason Powell, Gwen Cox (Kevin), Kira Correll (Kelly), Danielle Handley (Skylar), Michael Bagley, Grant Bagley and James Bagley, 14 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, her brother, George Munger (Judy) of Eclectic, AL and her sister, Peggy Wolfe of Silvis, IL, her very special cousin, Opal Mayhugh of Notasulga, AL and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mina Munger, her husband James Gosa, a great grandson, Skylar Melendez, sisters, Nancy Downey and Mary McNalley and infant brother, John Allen.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 3:00pm from the Philadelphia Deliverance Tabernacle with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Gary Lackey officiating. The visitation will be held at the church prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time with no graveside services to follow.

Tanner Dove, Cole Dove, Gaige Melendez, Kelly Correll, Skylar Handley, Eric Dove, Craig Davis, and Hobie Cole will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Lenora Freedle Vickery, age 87, passed away March 21, 2023 at the Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville.

She was born in Nashville, TN to her parents Edgar Dean Freedle and Ruth Ellen Harper.  Lenora’s grandfather Joseph Gerald Harper was a Methodist circuit rider in the late 1800’s and passed his strong faith to his daughter Ruth and granddaughter Lenora and grandson Shirley Dean Freedle, brother of Lenora.  

Lenora often sat with her Mother at church, turning the pages of the hymnal as Ruth played both the piano and organ for services.  Sunday was a special day in the Freedle household as the family would gather in the afternoons to listen to music and enjoy fellowship.  Her final years were often eased by listening to music.

She was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Masters in Counseling and Guidance.  Lenora began her career as a physical education teacher in Winfield, AL where she taught swimming to children before starting her first-year teaching.  There she met the love of her life Joe Edd Vickery and married on August 17, 1958.  Although her teaching career began in P.E, she quickly moved into Guidance Counseling for her professional career.  She served over 25 years at several Alabama public high schools and ended her career in Mississippi.  After retiring she traveled extensively with her husband throughout the United States.

She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Allyson Turnbull (Douglas T. Turnbull, II) of Enterprise, AL; sons, Chris Vickery of Columbus, MS, and Michael Vickery of Starkville, MS; grandson, Douglas T. Turnbull, III; and niece, Elizabeth Freedle.

A graveside service for Mrs. Vickery will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Winfield City Cemetery.
