Mrs. Annell Burleson, age 86 of Brilliant passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 in the St. Vintcent’s Hospital in Birmingham. Funeral services for Mrs. Burleson are incomplete and will be announced later.

Mrs. Mae Lean Cummings, age 82 of Brilliant passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Nursing facility in Guin. Funeral services for Mrs. Cummings are incomplete and will be announced later.

Mrs. Martha “Faye” Pittman, age 90, of Winfield, AL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Born on February 25, 1933, she was the youngest of five daughters born to John Thomas and Hattie Weeks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Paul Pittman. Faye is survived by her daughter, Deliska Lee (Sammy) of Jasper, AL; her son Danny Pittman (Kathy) of Winfield, AL; three grandchildren, Bree Smith (Jason) of Birmingham, AL, Cameron Lee (Brittany) of Jasper, AL, Zach Pittman (Katie) of Pensacola, FL, four great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Taegan, Tate, and Beckham; and one sister Dot Miles of Winfield, AL.

After graduating from Winfield High School, Faye attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN and Florence State University in Florence, AL. She married the love of her life, Paul Pittman, in 1955 while he was serving in the United States Air Force.

Over the course of her life, Faye had a diverse business career, working for the Atlanta Constitution Newspaper, managing a motel with Paul in Muscle Shoals, AL, establishing three retail businesses, and spending summers at Yellowstone National Park working in retail sales after retiring. While at the park, she became a member of the Yellowstone 100 Mile Hiking Club. This was quite a feat for a 75-year-old. Her love for travel took her and Paul all over the United States and to Europe, the Holy Lands, and even to Africa on a mission trip. Her gift of hospitality was appreciated by everyone! From homemade bread to cakes, cookies, and casseroles, Faye’s cooking skills were legendary. Her food was so good that she published a cookbook of her recipes. She lived her life as a faithful servant of Christ who loved the Lord, her family, her church, and her community.

A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Mae Rene Franks Crowe, age 88 of the Twin community passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at her residence. Mae Rene was born in Marion County, Alabama on May 8, 1934 to Gensis and Nola Davis Morrow. Mrs. Crowe was a member of the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church and a 1952 graduate of Marion County High School. She was employed for many years with Munsingwear of Guin and SouthTrust Bank until her retirement. Mae Rene was a very talented musician and loved to play the accordion. She enjoyed going to gospel singings, traveling, and taking care of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Crowe is survived by her two sons, Kenny Franks and his wife Sandra and Kyle Franks and his wife Whitney, her grandchildren, Kerry Early (Trey), Kylie Smith (Nicklas) Andy Franks and Kollier Franks, a sister, Ruby Lee Aldridge, special friend, Martine Miles, special caregivers, Tammy Burleson and Cecilia Randolph, alone with a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bithel Franks and Harold Crowe, sisters, Louise Lacey and Mary Rich, brothers, Rufus and Morgan Morrow.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crowe will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the church.
