Mr. James “Boss” Leland White, age 92, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at his residence. Mr. White was born on February 2, 1931 in Winfield, Alabama. James was the oldest of 9 children. He was known for being bossy to his younger siblings, earning himself the nickname “Boss” from them. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and attended Winfield City High School. Mr. White served his country in the United States Army. He employed as a machine repairman for John Deere Foundry in Moline, IL and retired after 27 years of service.

Mr. White is survived by his daughters, Brenda Carton of Jasper and Patricia Mellor (Howard) of Winfield, grandchildren, Daniel Mellor, Gareth Mellor (Stephanie), Jonathon Mellor (Laura), Leslee Carlson (Eric), Kate Carton, and Emily Carton, great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Noah, Jack, and Joshua Mellor, Rylie Martin and Arlo and Etta Mae Carlson, brothers Cecil Trimm (Sharron) and Arnold Trimm (Ann), sisters, Dora Atkinson, Lita Smith (Leonard), Marilyn Springer, Wanda Berryhill (Tony), and Shirley Langley (Buddy), and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife, Nyleta Wilson White, his parents, James and Minnie White Trimm, brother, Kenneth Trimm.

Funeral services for Mr. White will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2023 at 12:00 noon from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Evelyn Marie Corkren Tidwell, age 91, of Birmingham passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at her residence. Mrs. Tidwell was born in Marion County on August 15, 1931 to Vester and Mary Spillers Corkren. Mrs. Tidwell lived in Marion County before moving to Birmingham where she has lived for the past 70 years. Evelyn spent much of her life employed as a deli manager and cake decorator; she was employed with Food Giant and Food Max Grocery stores, and others along the way. In her spare time Evelyn enjoyed watching tv, visiting casinos, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Tidwell is survived by her sons, Kenny Tidwell of Birmingham and Gary Tidwell of Hoover, daughter, Trina Ann Clements (Frank) of Woodstock, GA, grandson, Robert Clements, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Tidwell was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ray Tidwell, her parents, brothers, Mack, Eugene, Vester Jr., Willie B. and Eddie Corkren, and a sister, Alma Townley.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tidwell will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 12:00 noon from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnny Lee Pollard, age 90 of Adamsville, formerly of Marion County, AL passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 in the Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. Mr. Pollard was born in Marion County Alabama on November 2, 1932, to Jesse Lee and Annie Crowe Pollard. He was a 1952 graduate of Marion County High School. Mr. Pollard joined Westwood Baptist Church in 1963 and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a United States Army Veteran and member of the American Legion # 255. Mr. Pollard was employed in the food industry for many years, he was the warehouse supervisor with Kraft Foods and Citation Corporation Food Services until his retirement. Johnny was a huge Auburn Tiger fan, he enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and fishing; but his greatest love and devotion was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family.

Mr. Pollard is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Joyce Franks Pollard, daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Pollard Pratt of Mount Olive and son, Timothy Lee Pollard and his wife Melanie of Vestavia, grandchildren, Brad Miller (Kristin), Jason Miller (Abby), Joey Miller (Leslie), Shanna Perkins (Brian) Jacob Pollard (Marjorie) and Landon Pollard (Becky), 16 great grandchildren, sister, Maxine Jefferys of Guin and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Buddy Pratt and a sister, Ima Jean Pugh.

Funeral services for Mr. Pollard will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 12:00 noon from the Westwood Baptist Church in Birmingham with burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. from the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church cemetery near Twin. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. service time at the Westwood Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary L. Hallmark Hamric, age 87 of Winfield passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Health Care Facility in Guin. Mrs. Hamric was born on September 9, 1935 in Marion County Alabama to David and Ethel McWhirter Hallmark. Mrs. Hamric was a longtime member of the Winfield Church of Christ. Mrs. Hamric was employed for many years with Dodd Furniture Store in Winfield until her retirement.

Mrs. Hamric is survived by her daughter, Deborah Couch, grandchildren, Kevin Couch, Lori Hubbert (Mark), Eric Couch (Cheryl), Paige Williams-Phillips (Brian), Katie Barrett (Wesley) and Amanda Rye, fourteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, two sisters, Lou Dell Mims and Brenda Blodgett and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, M. L. Hamric, her parents, a son-in-law, Larry Couch, sisters, Arlene Tucker and Lucille Sexton and brothers, Arlie Hallmark and Renley Hallmark.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hamric will be held on Friday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
