Mr. Max Clinton Brasher, age 83 of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. Max was a member of the Winfield First United Methodist Church, past President, past District President, and very active member of the Winfield Lions Club. Mr. Brasher was co-founder of the famed “Mule Day” event in Winfield, leading to the award of “emeritus” board member of the Winfield Chamber of Commerce. Max served on the Winfield City Council for 25 years and was a supervisor for GTE telephone company for almost 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. “Shorty” and Eunice Hubbert Brasher, two sisters, Linda Smith and Sue Davis, brothers, Jake, Tommy, Jerry Brasher, and Billy Ray Brasher, and a grandson Noah Brasher. Max is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patsy Roberts Brasher, sons, J. Max “Little Max” Brasher (Pam) and Allen Brasher (Melissa) both of Winfield, grandchildren, Clay Brasher (Kristen) of New York, Meagan Emerson of Hodges and Madison Brasher of Winfield, great grandchildren, Alyssa Emerson, and one “on the way”, Thomas Clay Brasher, brothers, Dale Brasher Sr. of Winfield and John (Doris) Brasher of Fayette, sister, Shirley Ann Gladden (George Ray) of Fayette, special caregiver, Michelle Gunnin and grand pups, Tide and Oliver. Funeral services for Max will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. from the Winfield First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the McConnell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. (service time) on Saturday at the church. Bro. James Michael Norris, better known as Michael, age 43, of Winfield, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his residence.  Michael was a 1992 graduate of Winfield City High School and a University of Alabama graduate with a degree in Philosophy and History, he was also an aspiring artist. He is preceded in death by his father, Kelita Norris and his grandparents, Mildred & Louie Norris and John & Mable Brock. Michael is survived by his mother, Sondra Norris of Winfield, brother, Jason Norris (Tiffany) of Richardson, TX and three nieces, Catherine, Nina and Anne Norris, and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. at Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Brother C.W. Box will be the officiating minister. Mrs. Kathleen Atkins, better known as Kat, age 93, of Winfield, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Diversicare Healthcare Center in Winfield. Mrs. Atkins was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church and worked for Winfield Cotton Mill and Winfield Manufacturing for many years.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Cornie Keene Harbin, husband, Donald Atkins, brothers, Coy, J.P., Dewey Jr, and George Harbin and a granddaughter, Cindy Atkins Nichols.  Mrs. Atkins is survived by her two sons, Wayne Atkins (Carolyn) and Larry Atkins, grandchildren, Tracie Atkins, Lindsey Webster (Adam) and Kevin Atkins, great grandchildren, Holland Moore, Caroline Webster, Lawson Nichols, Chloe Graham, Gabe Webster, Paisley Atkins and Colt Atkins, sister in law, Lena Harbin and grandson in law, Mark Nichols.  Funeral services for Mrs. Atkins will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win.  Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home.  Brother Venlon Bradford will be the officiating minister.  Bowen Funeral Home serving the Atkins family. 

Mrs. Margaret Ann McCrary Reed, age 90 of Winfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Saturday, April 14, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Edwin Webster Reed, her parents, William Mode McCrary and Anna Lucille Harris McCrary, a sister, Betty Sue McCrary Blackwell, and a son in law, Greg Young.  Mrs. Reed was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church where she was Sunday School teacher for the toddler and children’s classes for many years.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was employed for over 40 years in the local textile industries.  She is survived by her daughters Edwina (Marion) Corbett of Winfield, Anna Lou (Gary) Burks of Fosters, AL, and Joyce Miles-Young of Venice Florida, a son Steve (Debby) Reed of Winfield, grandchildren Marsha (Richard) Wates, Julie (Eric) Ott, Carrie (Neal) Hargle, Casey Lucille Burks, Joe B. (Lori) Miles, Haley M. (Wesley) Walker, Miranda (Jon) DeRouchey, and Patrick (Kerrie) Reed, great grandchildren, Mary Beth and Peyton Wates, Alex and Elaina Ott, Hannah and Jaxon Miles, Henry and Hazel Walker, Sarah and Carter Reed, and JonReed and Savannah DeRouchey, a sister, Mary Bell Page, and a brother Bill (Fay) McCrary.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Winfield City Cemetery.  Dr. Paul Murphy, Brother Ronnie Elmore, and Brother C. W. Box will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm (service time) on Monday at the funeral home.
