Mrs. Georgia Ellen Williams, age 78, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 in the DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Georgia was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church, she was employed by the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield as a cook for 31 years.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Latoya Williams, grandchildren, Destini Williams, Destinn Williams all of Winfield, a sister, Katherine Wilson of Fayette and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Fleming and Ornie Terrell Fleming, her husband, Eugene Williams, her sister, Kathelene Shaw and a brother, Sammy K. Swanigan.
The funeral service for Georgia will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Hodges Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor Keith Cobb will be the officiating minister. The visitation will be on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home. Mr. John Michael Burleson, age 67, of the Twin community, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
John Michael was born on December 27, 1952 in Marion County to James Andrew and Opal Burleson. He was a member of the Center United Methodist Church, and a 1972 graduate of Winfield City High School. John Michael enjoyed Alabama Football and loved visiting with his friends and family and he never met a stranger.
Mr. Burleson is survived by his nephews, Jamey Plunkett (Stephanie) of Twin, J. Bret Burleson (Keisha) of Winfield, Kevin Plunkett of Hamilton, great nephew, Tanner Burleson, uncle, Leroy Plunkett (Jeanette) of Hamilton and a brother, James Albert Burleson (Sherry) of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Andrew Burleson and Opal Louise McGough Burleson, a sister, Carrie Ann Burleson Plunkett, brother in law, Edward Plunkett and a great nephew, Tallon Burleson.
A memorial service for John Michael will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home, Brother Ashley Culp and Brother Kevin Young will be the officiating ministers. Mrs. Betty Lou Lenahan Wright, age 80 of Guin, went to be with her Lord and Savior her residence on Friday, February 21, 2020.
Betty was born on April 14, 1939 in Winfield, Alabama, to William Lenahan and Cora Lenahan. Mrs. Wright was a 1957 graduate of Winfield City High School and a member and deacon’s wife of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at several sewing plants in the surrounding areas for many years before becoming a homemaker. Betty enjoyed sewing and crocheting and being with her family.
Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald Arthur Wright, her daughter, Teresa Meshel Jones (Jimmy) of Guin, grandchildren, Delaney Jones (Tyler Berry) of Haleyville, Jessica Palmer (Jason) of Amory, MS, Dakota Jones of Guin and Justin Jones of Carbon Hill, a great grandchild, Copelynn Nicholle Berry, her brothers, Bobby Joe Lenahan (Dianne) of Cary, NC, and Jerry Lenahan (Nell) of Winfield and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Clayburn Lenahan and Cora Humber Lenahan, a son, Roland Anthony Wright and a brother, John Earl Lenahan.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wright will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Zion Missionary Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Steve Merrit will be the officiating minister. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (service time) at the church. Mr. Jerry Ray McGaha, better known as Ray, age 81, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
Ray was born on July 30, 1938 in Kansas, AL to Columbus Alvin McGaha, Sr. and Mary Edith Latham McGaha. Mr. McGaha was a graduate of Thomas W. Martin High School and the University of Alabama. In 1988 he was recognized as a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by the University of Alabama School of Engineering. He was a member of the Winfield First Baptist Church and retired as Senior Vice President of Sales and Engineering from Continental Conveyor. After his retirement from Continental Conveyor, Ray served as the President of J. Raymac Incorporated and Director at Overland Conveyor Company.
Mr. McGaha is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Chandler McGaha, his daughter, Jeanene McGaha Ray (Courtney) of Cartersville, GA, son, Jerry Ray McGaha II, of Winfield, grandsons, Drew Mullins and Ben Mullins both of Winfield, a brother, Jesse McGaha (Angeline) of Winfield and a sister in law, Marguritte McGaha of Gardendale and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. A. McGaha, Sr, and Edith Latham McGaha, sisters and brothers, Frances Edith McGaha Dye, and Patricia Ann McGaha, Joe Marion McGaha, Kelly Swindle McGaha, C. A. McGaha, Jr, George Lawrence McGaha.
Memorial service for Mr. McGaha will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. from the Winfield First Baptist Church. The visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (service time) at the church.
