Miss. Martha Kay Banks, age 62 of Winfield formerly of Arab, passed away on Friday. April 17, 2020 at Diversicare of Winfield Nursing Facility. Miss Banks was born on July 25, 1957 to Wallace Banks and Grace Davis Banks in Tennessee. She is survived by her brother, Fred Banks (Tammy) of Union Grove, AL, nieces and nephews, Tori Smith, Katlyn Banks, Jamey Banks, Jeff Banks, Joey Banks and Jill Banks and a host of other family and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Grace Banks. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Banks family.

Mr. Ted Wyman Markham, age 79 of Winfield passed away on Saturday, April 18, at his residence.  Mr. Markham was a 1960 graduate of Winfield City High School.  He was a member of Guin First Baptist Church.  Mr. Markham was a devoted, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis Verel Markham and his mother Lou Vadie Taylor Markham.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Simmons Markham, two sons, Stacy (Linda) Markham and Randy (Judy) Markham, a daughter, Tracy (Dan) Rao, grandchildren, Ty (Emily) Markham, Noah Markham, Dakota Markham, Aaron Rao, Megan Rao, Reid Markham, Savannah Markham, three step grandchildren, Keith Posey, Justin Posey, and Karenda King, and five step great grandchildren, Hayden Markham, Hayden Posey, Hagan Posey, Brayden King and Bryleigh King.  Visitation will be held from 12 noon until 2:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 21st at Berryhill Cemetery.  Brother Kenny Hatcher and Brother Keith Box will officiate.  Bowen Funeral Home serving the Markham family. 

Mrs. Donnie Bell Nelson Doss, age 90 of Brilliant Passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her residence. She was born on June 5, 1929 in Marion County, AL to Arthur Bryan Nelson and Lillian Pearl Myers Nelson.

Mrs. Doss was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ. She was employed with Winfield Manufacturing, Reltoc Industries, and other sewing industries in the area for many years. Her favorite “occupation” was being a Homemaker for her family, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and most especially her great grandchildren.

Mrs. Doss is survived by her daughters, Brenda Harris (Thurmond) and Deborah Berryhill (Randy), her grandchildren, Chad Cotton (Alicia), Kyle Cotton (Heather), Shae Tidwell (Adam), Courtney Shivetts (Mike), great grandchildren, Sara Beth, Brock, Brett, Brooks, Ansley, Sadie, Whitley, Emily, Nelson, Kellen and Madelyn, sisters, Carolyn Spiller and Flo Reynolds, and brothers, Bob Nelson and Wayne Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Doss, her parents, Arthur and Lillian Nelson, sisters, Hazel Nelson, Willie Mae Kimbrell, Estell Strickland, Annell Spiller, and her brothers, H. B. Nelson and Clyde Nelson.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 from the Goldmine Cemetery in Brilliant. Chad Beasley will be the officiating minister. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Doss family.

Mrs. Evelyn “Sue” Smith May, age 76 of Winfield passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020 at DCH Regional Health Care Center in Tuscaloosa. Sue was born on June 4, 1943 to Wyman Smith and Ruby Sandlin Smith Jewell.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert May, son, Allen May of Winfield, daughters, Jackie May of Winfield, Kathy Hartung of New Orleans, Robin Green (Jody) of Brilliant, a grandson, Dylan Hartung of New Orleans, brother, Lynn Smith (Hilda) of Winfield, niece, Brittany Harris (Casey) of Winfield, nephew, Devin Smith (Hollie) of Winfield and a sister, Rhonda Jewell, and a host of other relatives and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, father, Wyman Smith, mother, Ruby Jewell, stepfather, Howard Jewell and a niece, Regina Sims.
