Ms. Verta Dellaree Box, age 96, of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility in Guin. Ms. Box was born July 23, 1926 in Eldridge, AL to Lester and Lula Bell Hamilton Box. Verta lived her whole life in Eldridge and a longtime member of Popular Springs Primitive Baptist Church. Ms. Box never had children of her own; she was always considered a second mother to all of her extended family. Ms. Box spent much of her life as a seamstress, she enjoyed making quilts for her family and the public.
Ms. Box is survived by her brothers, C.W. Box of Winfield and Clyde Box and his wife Linda of Moody, a sister-in-law, Beulah Dean Box of Northport, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Cleburn, and Clovis Box, sisters, Verla Wright, Verna McDonald, and Vaudene Miles, sisters-in-law, Kate Box, Betsy Box, and Cat Box, brothers-in-law, Aaron Wright, J.C. McDonald, and J.L. Miles.
Funeral services for Ms. Box will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Old Brand Cemetery near Eldridge. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Claudie Randolph Phillips better known as Randy, age 73, of Winfield passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Randy was born June 28, 1949 in Royston, GA to Thomas and Ruby Pullian Phillips. Mr. Phillips served his country in the United States Army where he fought in the Vietnam War. Randy was employed with Continental Conveyor before retiring after 34 years of service. In his spare time Randy loved to fish and spend time with his family.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Linda Phillips, son Jimmy Phillips of Detroit, AL, grandchildren, Ryan Ary (Cheyenne) of Fort Greely, AK, and Summer Phillips of Corinth, MS, and great-grandchildren, Greyson and Lunna Ary.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Phillips, stepdaughter, Shirley Tucker, stepmother, Artie Phillips, brother, Jim Phillips, sister, Linda Phillips, parents in law, Alvis and Sissy Tidwell, and brother-in-law Dennis Tidwell.

Funeral services for Randy will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Tidwell Chapel Cemetery where military honors will be presented. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Benjamin Miles, Jr. better known as Bobby, age 78 of Winfield, Alabama passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his residence with his loving wife by his side. Bobby was born in Marion County, Alabama on September 24, 1944, to Robert Benjamin Miles, Sr. and Lucille Black Miles.

Bobby was a 1963 graduate of Hubbertville High School and graduated from the University of Alabama. He was employed with the Winfield Cotton Mill, Federal Mogul, and most recently, owner/operator of Bob’s Tack Shop. Bobby was very involved with Winfield sporting events while his children were in school, he ran the clock for most football and basketball games for many years. He coached an independent girls’ softball team and led them to National Finals in Florida. Bobby was a die-hard Auburn fan all his life, he loved cheering on the Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. He loved country music, playing the guitar and teaching others how to play, and he always enjoyed a good game of Rook with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Chesteen Miles, children, Sharon Dickinson (Steve) of Chelsea, Kristy Corley (John) of Reform, Michele Stanford (Craig) of Winfield, stepchildren, Jerry Stovall (Angie) of Carbon Hill, Sherry McDonald (Mark) of Northport, Judy Markham (Randy) of Killen, grandchildren, Kyle Rainey (Natasha),Ryan Stanford (McKenzi), Kelsi Plunkett (Brett), Kevin Rainey (Cara Beth), step grandchildren, Mandy Jones (Shawn), Jessica Hammack (Keifer), Nikki Grammer (Phillip), Andrew McDonald (Madalyn), Reid Markham and Savannah Markham, great grandchildren, Kolt Rainey, Kash Rainey, Kase Rainey, Brinley Stanford, Rhett Plunkett, Saban Vickery, Riley Vickery, step great grandchildren, Chandler Cayson, Kaleb Cason, Abigail Grammer, Nora Grammer, sisters, Helen Henderson (Sam), and Lillie Everette (Benny) and a host of nieces, nephews, his best friend, Randy Watkins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ruth M. Lee, age 100, formerly of Winfield, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, 1/30/2023, at her residence in Grayson, Georgia.

Mrs. Lee was born in Cookeville, Putman County, TN on August 16, 1922 to James B. and Ova S. Mills. Mrs. Lee was the oldest living member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Winfield. She lived a life full of grace, which was strengthened by her faith in God. She remained a member of Harmony Grove even after moving to Georgia to live with her daughters. She loved her church family and was devoted to the members there.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was affectionately called GG.

She loved reading her Bible daily even at age 100. She enjoyed being with people and was always a good listener. She loved music, especially gospel hymns. She would often sing her favorites “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Count Your Many Blessings” as she went about her morning.

Mrs. Lee is survived by her daughter - Rebecca Rustin, granddaughter - Christy, great grandchildren – Rusty and Rory, and countless nieces and nephews whom all loved her dearly. She was even a great-great-great aunt.

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sam F. Lee, her sisters, Alice Owens, Velma Mills, Pearl Roberts, Kate Smith and one brother James B. Mills Jr. and her daughter, O. Elizabeth Lee.

The funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Winfield, AL. She will lie in state from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the church.

The visitation will be held on Friday evening February 3, 2023 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Bowen Funeral Home in Winfield, AL.
