Mr. Carl Ray AtkinsonMr. Carl Ray Atkinson, age 82 of Winfield, passed away on Monday, June 13 at his residence. Mr. Atkinson was a member of the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church where he servied as a Deacon for several years, retired supervisor with 3M after 32 years of service, and a U.S. army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Abbie Lee Atkinson, 2 sisters, Wynette Atkinson and Eloise Harkness, 3 brothers, Proctor, Lambert and Lee Atkinson.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dora Trimm Atkinson, sons, Phillip Ray Atkinson Sr., Tim C Atkinson, and Mark Atkinson, all of Winfield, sisters, Sue Hubbert of Winfield, Virginia (Hayward) Nixon of Hamilton, and Edna Earl Kilgore of Texas, a brother, Donald (Sue) Atkinson of Winfield, Grandchildren, LaSha (Darren) Mosely, Courtney (Daryl) Reeves, Phillip Ray Atkison Jr., Eric Atkinson, Jared Atkinson (Morgan Guyton), Tyler Atkinson (Renee Bauza''), great grandchildren, Isiah Kyle Atkinson, Reese Winter Mosely, MaKenna Abby Reeves, Annaliese Mosely, and Riley Bryant Atkinson, and many others that called him "Paw Paw". Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, June 16 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Old Union Cemetery near Wayside.  Bro. Danny Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. 

Mr. James Mr. James "Bud" Curtis Self, age 81 of Brilliant, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Winfield. Mr. Self was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Lottie Dickinson Self. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Self, a son, Anthony "Tony" Self (Felicia) of Winfield, Daughters, Karen Caudle (Ivan) of Brilliant, and Ann King (Rex) of Haleyville, grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Caudle, Kyle Self (Carrie), and Joseph Self, and Joshua and Lindsay King, 6 great grandchildren, brothers, Billy Self (Helen) and Jackie Self (Vonnie), and one sister, Virginia Mullenix. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Rev. Steve Tidwell and Rev. Charlie Rawls officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Letus Odell Weeks, Jr.Mr. Letus Odell Weeks Jr. age 74 of Winfield, passed away on June 9, 2011 at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Mr. Weeks had requested a private memorial service be given in his memory.

 

 

 

Mrs. Annie Lou MillerMrs. Annie Lou Miller, age 86 of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Sunset Manor Nursing facility in Guin. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband Delmus Miller, her parents, Benny and Nancy Lenahan Shelnutt, and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Miller was retired after 38 years of teaching.

She is survived by two daughters, Reba (Terry) May, and Martha (Phillip) Miles, a son, Myron  (Lavenia) Miller, grandchildren, Miranda (Michael) Butler, Emily (Dale) Yake, and Brad (Ashley) Miles, great grandchildren, Anna Beth Butler, Caroline Butler, Abigail Yake, Aidan Yake, Finley Yake, Raven Miles, and Caitlin Miles, a sister Mary Jensen, two brothers, Gene and William Shelnutt, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, at Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield directing.
