Mr. Thurmon Veron Hubbert, age 86 of Hubbertville, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his residence. Thurmon was born on October 4, 1934 in Fayette County Alabama to Cogar and Cena Hollingsworth Hubbert. He was a member and minister of Housh Chapel Church of Christ near Fayette from 1987 - 2019 until his retirement. Mr. Hubbert was a 1954 graduate of Hubbertville High School and attended the International Bible College in Florence. Thurmon married his high school sweetheart, Charlee Miles on May 21, 1955, they were married for almost 60 years. Thurmon was employed with Brilliant High School as the custodian and a bus driver for more than 25 years.

Mr. Hubbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlee Miles Hubbert, a son, Eddie Hubbert, a great grandson, Vince Hubbert and his parents, Cogar Hubbert and Cena Hollingsworth Hubbert. He is survived by his son, Tony Hubbert (Melissa) of Riverside, AL, grandchildren, Jennifer Hubbert of Northport, TJ Hubbert of Maryland, and Chris Hubbert (Ashton) of Fayette, 3 great grandchildren, Kamryn Hubbert, Morgan Hubbert and Kayleigh Hubbert, a brother, Thealon Hubbert (Judy) of Hubbertville, a sister, Tessie Johnson of Atlanta, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, church family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Hubbert will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hubbertville Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Hubbertville Cemetery. Bobby Dodd will be the officiating minister. Mr. Hubbert will lie in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Friday. The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bowen Funeral Home. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Hubbert Family.

Mr. Rubben E. McCollum, age 82, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was born on April 17, 1938 in Bazemore, AL to the late Gertis McCollum and Pina Rice McCollum.

Mr. McCollum attended his early school years in Bazemore, AL.  In 1958 he relocated to Milwaukee, WI where he completed his education at MATC and Marquette University.  He worked for A. O. Smith as a welder for 16 years.

Rubben married his beautiful wife, Bobbie, in 1961 in Milwaukee.  They accepted Christ in baptism in 1962 at Central Church of Christ and labored there as the Assistant Minister for 19 years under the late John O. Williams.  In 1980, he moved to Knoxville, TN where he served at the Park City Church of Christ for 2 years, helping to build a new edifice, now known as the McDonald Drive Church of Christ.  He served for another 3 years there.  He then moved to Dayton, OH to the Gard Ave Church of Christ where he served for more than 12 years.  From there, he went on to the Wooster Ave Church of Christ in Akron, OH where he served almost 3 years and he decided to retire to his birth home.  God was not finished with him and preaching the Word was in his bones.  He was asked to serve as the minister in Jasper, AL at the 24th Street Church of Christ, where he served for 11 years, after which he decided to retire.  His retirement didn’t last long when he was asked to serve as Assistant Minister at Mayfield Church of Christ, now known as Inner City Church of Christ in Fayette, AL.  Rubben also enjoyed working his BBQ business, R & B Smoked Ribs, which he worked for 15 years.  His specialty was the most tender ribs and delicious Boston Butts in the surrounding area.

Mr. McCollum was preceded in death by his parents, Gertis and Pina McCollum, brothers, A. C., Grady, Howard and Carter McCollum, and his sisters, Nellie J. McCollum, Essea J. Douglas and Linda Armstead.

Fondly cherishing the memory of Rubben is his wife of 59 years, Bobbie Hunt McCollum, sons, Regis T. McCollum (Alicia) of Dayton, OH and Rodney N. McCollum of Bazemore, AL, and a daughter, Rita Z. McCollum of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, India Marie and Andrew T. McCollum of Dayton, OH, and a great grandson, Kyrin Murphy, his adopted daughter Jackie Blake, his brothers, Dan McCollum (Mary) of Tupelo, MS, Miles McCollum (Evelyn) of Phoenix, AZ, Charles McCollum and James Richey both of Winfield, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, church family, colleagues in the gospel and other friends.

Mr. James Bearden, better known as J.D., age 81 of Brilliant, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at his residence.

J.D. was born on December 21, 1939 in Madisonville, Kentucky to Davis and Sarah Bearden, and was owner/operator of B & B Welding for over 30 years. Mr. Bearden enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He was a family man that was full of love and joy to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Marie Williams Bearden, children, Guyla Perry of Pell City, Joey Barnett of Brilliant, Vickie Shirriff (Kenny) of Northport, Sandy Couch (Tim) of Winfield, Greg Bearden (Becky) of Brilliant and Tony Bearden (Debbie) of Madisonville , KY, grandchildren, Kyle Jack (Jamie), Monique Jack, Trace Barnett, Trent Goodwin (Katie), Bradley Hallman, Brian Couch, Rhonda Wilkerson, Christy Hutchins (David), Kathy Hurt (Jonathon), and a host of great grandchildren, sister, Dorothy Rickards of Madisonville, KY, and a brother, Calvin Bearden of Madisonville, KY, close friends, Kevin and Cindy Holcomb, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Davis and Sarah Bearden and brothers, Thomas and Junior Bearden.

A graveside service for J.D. will be held on Sunday, January, 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. Brother David Sexton will be the officiating minister.

Mrs. Thomasine Clark, age 97 of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in the Sunset Manor Health Care Facility.   Mrs. Clark is survived by her daughter, Linda McCluskey (Max) of Niceville , FL.  She was preceded in death by, her husband, Webster Clark , granddaughter, Misty Fowler and her parents, Thomas and Jettie Workman.   A private burial for Mrs. Clark will be held from the West Alabama Memorial Gardens.  Bowen Funeral Home serving the Clark family.
