Mr. James Emerson Norris, age 88, of the Twin area passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Norris was born in Guin, Alabama on February 1, 1936 to Emerson and Annie Dickinson Norris. James was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was employed for much of his life as a crane operator with Alabama Bridge Builders until his retirement. In his spare time James enjoyed farming, hunting, and riding his tractor.

Mr. Norris is survived by his children, Tim Norris (Alicia), and Vicky Kimbrell, grandchildren, Angie Kimbrell, and Eric Norris (Tasha), great grandchildren, Levi, Kathleen, Langston, and Brayden, brothers, Cecil and William Norris, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Norris, son, Jimmy Norris, brothers, R.C., Emitt, Ruben, Troy, Larry Dean, and Billy, sister, Velma Johnson, and special friend, Don Adkins.

Funeral services for Mr. Norris will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Edith June Mixon Byrd, age 73, of Hamilton passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mrs. Byrd was born in Haleyville, Alabama on September 6, 1950 to Berlon and Wilma Hightower Ballard. She attended the Barnesville Freewill Baptist Church and was a 1968 graduate of Hamilton High School where she served as homecoming queen and cheerleader. After high school she attended Northwest Alabama Technical College where she earned her barber certificate. June worked in the community as a barber until the birth of her children. She then spent the next 17 years as a stay-at-home mom, supporting them in every activity they were involved in. She later rejoined the workforce and was employed in the dental industry and later with Marion County Funeral Home where she worked until her retirement. After retirement June began taking care of her grandchildren who were the love of her life.  June was a selfless person and a wonderful mother and Mimi. She was a valued seamstress for the community, and loved to cook, often providing food for the sick and shut in. In her spare time June enjoyed crocheting and doing needlepoint, being outside watching her hummingbirds, and in earlier years spending time taking care of her horses.

Mrs. Byrd is survived by her husband, Eddie Byrd, children, Heath Mixon (Patrick), Stacy Page (Todd), Leah Copeland (Justin), and Lance Byrd and his wife, grandchildren, Madeleine Page, Mackenzie Polson (Brady), Jon Robert Page, Elijah Johnson (Anna Kate), Cohen Johnson, Caroline Copeland, Alex Byrd, and Kayley Byrd, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Ballard.

A graveside service for Mrs. Byrd will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Barnesville Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery near Hamilton.

Mr. Freddy Harbin, better known as “Ted’, age 85, of Salyersville, Kentucky formerly of Winfield passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. Funeral services for Ted will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the New Liberty Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Sonja Janice Wiseman Westerfield was born on August 17th, 1938, in Borger, Texas and went home to be with her Lord on June 13th, 2024, in Winfield, Alabama. She was truly a remarkable woman who strove for excellence all of her life.

Sonja was born and raised in Borger, Texas, where she met her life-long best friend, Micca Chapman Pirtle. She went to Texas Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. It was at Texas Tech where she met and was married to Joe Pat Westerfield on August 18th, 1957. After graduating from Texas Tech, they began their life together in Gruver, Texas.

In Gruver, Sonja raised three children, Max, Tina, and Lisa. She was a school teacher and taught English, Special Education, Speech and Drama. She coached her high school drama team all the way to the state finals and was well-loved by her students. She was a member of the Gruver United Methodist Church and went on mission trips from the church.

In 1978, the family moved to Broomfield, Colorado, for three years, then moved back to Borger, Texas, where Pat and Sonja owned and operated the K-Bob’s Steak House. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Borger.

At the age of 48, she decided to go to law school and attended Texas Tech University School of Law. After practicing Immigration Law in Houston, Texas, for a few years, she moved back to Borger and opened her own law practice. She was a compassionate and hard-working attorney who served her clients in Borger until her retirement in 2017.

Anyone who knew Sonja can tell you stories. She had a big personality and there was never a dull moment when Sonja was around. The stories will almost certainly involve the cabin in Ruidoso, decorating, extravagant meals, or the endless funny situations she found herself in. Sonja will be missed by her family and friends. Hers was a life well-lived.

She is preceded in death by her father Paul Wiseman, her mother Evelyn Wiseman, her husband Pat Westerfield, and her brother Ronald Wiseman.

She is survived by her brother, Mark Wiseman and his wife Linda, her sister-in-law Ramona Wiseman, her son Max Westerfield and his wife Gina, her daughter Tina Randall and her husband Mark, her daughter Lisa Feldman, her grandchildren Miles Randall, Pierce Westerfield, Matt Randall, Bailey Westerfield, Bregg Feldman, and Dacey Feldman, and her nieces and nephews Stephen Westerfield, Lee Westerfield, Eric Wiseman and Jill Wiseman.

A memorial service for Mrs. Westerfield will be held at a later date.
