Alex Addison Chaffin age 34, of Hubbertville passed away Saturday morning, August 22, 2020 in the UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Alex was a fun loving, fried chicken eating, Pepsi drinking young man, he had a heart of gold that touched many lives with his time here on earth. Alex was born in Winfield, AL to David and Stachie Tidwell Chaffin on August 6, 1986. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ and a 2004 graduate of Hubbertville High School. Alex loved his family, his school, his community, country music, and the WWE. Every Friday night during football season you could find Alex on the sideline cheering on the Hubbertville Lions; on Saturdays he would be cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alex was a true sports fan and was proud to let it show. He was always a ray of sunshine and a blessing to everyone that knew him.

He is survived by his parents, David and Stachie Chaffin of Hubbertville, brothers, Josh Chaffin (Haleigh) of Parrish and Eric Chaffin (Carly) of Hubbertville, aunt, Stephanie Corkren (Al) of Brilliant, uncles, Jimmy Chaffin (Karen) and Jeff Tidwell (Amanda Tranum) both of Hubbertville, nieces, Palyn and Parker Chaffin and nephews, Lance and AJ Chaffin of Parrish, His family and friends at Windows, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joel and Louise Chaffin, Jack and Bobbie Nell Tidwell and uncle, Mike Chaffin.

Funeral services for Alex will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Berea Church of Christ Cemetery. Mr. James William Barnett, better known as “Bill”, age 81 of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Bill was a 1958 graduate of Phillips High School. He retired from Phifer Wire Products after many years of long road truck driving; but his favorite jobs were farming and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joe and Pearlie Hicks Barnett, a brother, Raymond Barnett, and 3 sisters, Ora Mae Linley, Sylvia Williford, and Pauline “Polly” Dodd. Bill is survived by his children, Earl Barnett and Chris Barnett of Winfield, a daughter, Veronica “Ronnie” Edwards of Guin, granddaughter, Brookelynn Rea (Dusty) of Winfield, a brother, Ray Barnett of Winfield, sisters, Christine Jackson of Haleyville, Earnestine Britnell of Haleyville, Nora Corkren of Brilliant, Brenda Ward of Brilliant, Jackie McInnish of Bear Creek, and Ann Dykes of Brilliant, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Bill will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2020 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Carmela LaGala Chestnut, age 86 of Winfield passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. Carmela was born to Fernando LaGala and Vicenza Peruzzi on October 12, 1933 in Naples, Italy. She was a member of the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church, and was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Billy Chestnut (Patricia) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Lisa Chestnut Young, of Winfield, her grandchildren, Brandi Segraves (Chris) of Winfield, Jennifer Hood (Kody) of Double Springs, Olivia Franklin (Nate) of Jacksonville, FL, Rafaella Chestnut of Winfield and Nicolai Chestnut (Kariann) of Fredericksburg, VA, fourteen great grandchildren, Malachi, Haly, Makenzie, Lacey, Roman, Sophia, Gianna, Dylan, Will, Brinlee, Kane, Kellan, Kabree, Kinlee, and one on the way, a sister, Antonietta Livingston (Charles) of Lincoln, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Carmela was preceded in death by her husband, John Chestnut, parents, Fernando LaGala and Vicenza Peruzzi, a daughter, Dora DeFortis, sisters, Maria LaGala and Anna Gill, her brother, Salvatore LaGala, and son in law, Wade Young.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chestnut will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win. Brother Kent Nelson and Brother Danny Williams will be the officiating ministers. The visitation will be held on Friday August 21st from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (service time) at the church. Mr. Larry David Bolen, also known as L.D., age 82 of Guin, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Bolen was born in Lamar Co. near Fern Bank, AL, on December 15, 1937. Mr. Bolen was a United States Army and Air Force veteran and served as an Alabama State Trooper in the mid and late 1960’s. He retired from Drummond Coal Company in 1999 after 26 years of service; he was a very active and respected member, and past President of the UMWA Local 9511 for many years. L.D. loved spending time with his family, and watching Alabama football and Softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loranzy Dawl Bolen and Pearlie Mae Spann Bolen, and a sister Marcine Bolen Braden. Mr. Bolen is survived by his wife, Mary Gilbert Bolen, a son, David “Buddy” Bolen, his daughter, Amy Bolen Butler, a granddaughter, Ava Brooke Butler, a brother, Douglas (Mary) Bolen, his dog Kacie, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Bolen will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens.
