Bro. Hollie Wayne Spiller, age 75 of Winfield, Alabama (of the Mt. Pisgah Community) passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.

Bro. Spiller was born on February 12, 1944 in Winfield, Alabama to Hollie Bell and Allie Ruth Duncan Spiller. From an early age, Bro. Spiller learned to play piano and sing, later learning to play a variety of musical instruments, including the guitar, drums, banjo, bugle and harmonica. He joined his first band when he was 12 years old, and spent many years as an on the road musician, playing with various groups. When the family moved to Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, he formed the band The Hollycast, and spent the next several years playing music in the Midwestern United States. He played with such notables as Charley Rich, Charley Pride, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Crystal Gayle, just to name a few. In the early 1970’s, he was offered a recording contract by Capital Records in Nashville, Tennessee, but his manager refused to sell his contract. At the same time, the Lord was tugging at his heart. Shortly thereafter, the family moved back to Winfield and he answered God’s call to preach. He served as Pastor at Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church from 1974-1979. Following that, he served as Pastor at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church from 1980-present, totally 45 years in the Lord’s service.
