Mr. Roger Dale Estes, age 68 of Winfield passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the owner/operator of Estes Electric, Inc. for 37 years.

Roger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlene Orsborn Estes, his daughters, Jenifer Estes Harbison (Matthew), Tiffany Estes Mills (Leon), grandchildren, Elliott Keith Overton, Cameron Dale Harbison, Claire Elizabeth Overton, son-in-law, Keith Overton, sisters, Linda Newman and Donna Smith (James), brothers, Larry Estes, Tim Estes (Sandy), Richard Estes, Charlie Kilgore (Sharon), a host of nieces, nephews and other family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Icie Banks Estes Kilgore.

Funeral services for Roger will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win.   Brother Bobby Barnes will be the officiating minister. Mrs. Willie Helen Self, better known as Helen, age 87 of Winfield passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021. 

Helen was born on July 10, 1934 to William and Johnnie Lou Tucker in Winfield, Alabama.  Mrs. Self was a member of Gold Mine Church of Christ in Brilliant and attended Winfield City High School.  Helen worked for many years in the Textile industry in and around Winfield.  She enjoyed sewing, growing flowers, working in her garden, eating cake, ice cream and oatmeal, and always had to have her “Red” lipstick.  Helen loved her children, grandchildren, and her many friends.  Helen enjoyed dancing in the living room and making people laugh and smile.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Ava Franks of Florida, Hilda Leonard (Dan) of Brilliant, Renee Seals of McCalla, and Kelly Kitchens (Herman) of Auburn, grandchildren, April Estes (Chad), Burt Pollard (Angie), Derrick Webb, Nichole Hollis (James), Coty Bozeman (Jamie), Brayton Pollock, Ty Seals (Ashley) Kayla Kitchens and Jeb Kitchens, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.   She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Rayburn Berryhill, and her husband of 7 years, Billy Self, her parents, William Henry Tucker and Johnnie Lou Phillips Tucker, grandson, Chase Tyree, granddaughter, April Seals, brother, Louis Tucker and her beloved aunt, Laura Tucker.

Mr. Billy Jerry Smith better known as Jerry, age 76 of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born on October 7, 1945 to William Haskel Smith and Flora Mae Warren Smith, a few Days after his 76th birthday, Jerry passed away in the same home he was born in. Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Brilliant High School where he excelled in football and basketball. On July 4, 1964 he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Lee Spiller, together they had three beautiful children, a son and two daughters. Jerry retired from the 3-M Company in Guin after 35 years of service.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on the Tennessee River. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and watching Alabama Football.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Lee Spiller Smith, son, Jerry Michael Smith (Tabitha), daughters, Dewana Lee Smith and Candy Clarrissa Smith-Hollis (Kedric), grandchildren, Ashley Files (Casey), Katlyn Smith, McChael Smith (Macy), Stephanie Vickery, Trace Vickery, Kali Smith, Brooklynn Hollis, Elijah Hollis, step-grandchildren, Chase Cochran (Morgan) and Zack Cochran (Katie), nine great grandchildren, sister, Bobbie Garrett (Bill) and a brother, Tony Smith (Susan) and a host of nieces, nephews and other close family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Flora Mae Smith, siblings, Wayne Harold Smith, William Ellis Smith, Mary Frances Bostick and Jimmy Terrell Smith and his beloved dog “Animal” that was by his side for 13 years.

Jerry will be truly missed by, his loving wife of 57 years, his children, grandchildren, and his friends. The family would like to thank, Amedisys Hospice for their compassion and care during this time.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home. Pastor Willie Joe Hollis and Pastor Jeremy Harris will officiate. Mrs. Wendi Rae Ates, age 72 of Winfield formerly of Iowa, passed away on Monday October 11, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Ates was born on November 11, 1948 to Henry and Geraldine Hendrickson in Iowa. Wendi was a member of Faith Fellowship Church of Winfield. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Truman Ates, daughter, Michelle Hennicke (George) and a sister, Nanci Boten (Art).
