Mr. James Frank Stanford, age 84, of Winfield passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his residence. Frank was born in Brilliant, Alabama on June 2, 1940 to Claude Lee and Margaret Frances Conner Stanford. He was a member of the Center United Methodist Church in Brilliant. He was a 1958 graduate of Brilliant High School where he served as Salutatorian of his class. After graduation Frank attended Northwest Community College where he earned an associate’s degree in electronics. He spent much of his life employed as a machinist for Cotler Manufacturing and later with King Kutter Inc. before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, going to yard sales and flea markets, and antiquing. Frank was a very outgoing person, never meeting a stranger and making friends wherever he went.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Sandy Anderson and her husband John, and Tammy McKellar and her husband Tim, grandchildren, Sarah Anderson, Clay Brasher (Kristen), Isaac Anderson, Macy Lott (Lynn), and Meg Stovall (Hagen), great grandchildren, Thomas Clayton Brasher, Liza Jean Brasher, and Campbell James Stovall, sister-in-law, Cathy Lawrence, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Jean Lawrence Stanford, his parents, and his brother Doug Stanford.

Funeral services for Frank will be held on Thursday, January 9th at 4:00 p.m. from the Winfield First Methodist Church, the body will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. service time on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. The visitation for Mr. Stanford will be held on Wednesday, January 8th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. from the church.

Mrs. Deborah Kay Couch, better known as Debbie, age 69 of Winfield passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025 in the Grandview Medical Center. She was born in Winfield, Alabama on June 18, 1955 to M.L. and Mary Hallmark Hamric. Debbie was a 1973 graduate of Winfield High School. She married her high School sweetheart Larry G. Couch and spent 49 years with him until his death in 2021. Debbie was employed for many years with Citizens Bank of Winfield until her retirement.

Debbie is survived by her 5 children, Kevin Couch, Lori Hubbert (Mark), Eric Couch (Cheryl), Paige Phillips (Brian), and Katie Barrett (Wesley), 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, and other family members.

Debbie was preceded in death by her husband Larry and her parents.

A private family memorial service for Debbie will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Shirley Ann Davis Whitehead, age 89 of Glen Allen, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 in the Diversicare Health Care Center in Winfield.  Shirley was born in Union, South Carolina, on July 7, 1935 to Van and Ruth Small Gregory. She attended Union County High School.  After graduation she joined the United States Air Force where she met her first husband, Joe Neil Davis. After completing her enlistment, she and Joe were married and were stationed in Wyoming, Alabama and France. While stationed in France Joe passed away suddenly at the age of 26.  Shirley returned to Joe’s hometown of Fayette and remained there while she attended Shelton State, where she received her nursing degree and worked for many years in the Fayette and Winfield hospitals. She met Rusty Whitehead, and they were married in 1966. They raised their children in Glen Allen. She retired from nursing to become a full-time caregiver to her parents until their death.  She was a member of the Oasis Church in Winfield for over 40 years.

Shirley is survived by her son, John Davis (Wanda), daughters, Sissy Sullins (Billy) and Gina Lynn (Byron), daughter-in-law, Debbie Whitehead, grandchildren, Jason, Greg (Kimberly), and Jonathan (Brittany) Davis, Heather May (Brad), Amber Whitson (Dusty), Ben Sullins (Carrie), Shondra Podmore (Keith), Peyton Whitehorn (Dakota), Angela Stiefel (Elijah), and Jennifer Robertson (Calan), her great-grandchildren, McKenzie Shade (Tyler), Rylee and Brady May, Zoe and Zander Whitson, Olivia Webb, Piper, Jackson and Rylie Davis, Willow Whitehorn, Chris and Brooklyn Podmore, Karley and Kennady Sullins, Kenzey Harding, Eleanor Stiefel, Elijah Jay Allen Stiefel, II, Rowan and River Robertson and a host of other relatives, church family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Davis and Rusty Whitehead, a son, Rex Whitehead, a son-in-law, Billy Sullins and her parents.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whitehead will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Morris Cemetery.  The visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to; Gentiva Hospice 74 Industrial Parkway, Jasper, AL 35501 or 205-384-3882.

Mr. Truman Ates, age 79, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Mr. Ates was born in Florida on August 18, 1945 to Wiley and Gracie Ates. He spent much of his life in the construction industry as a project manager.
Mr. Ates is survived is daughter, Michelle Hennicke and husband George, and grandchildren, Reese, Walt, and Mason Hennicke.
Mr. Ates was preceded in death by his wife, Wendi Ates and his parents.
