Mrs. Mary Dean Bates, age 87 of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Brilliant, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Heritage Healthcare and Rehab Center in Tuscaloosa.
Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin Dodd and Rosa Ingle Dodd, her husband, William Howard Bates, and a daughter Rhonda Sharon Hood. She is survived by her daughters, Diann Bates of Tuscaloosa, and Kathy Bates of Birmingham, granddaughter, Crystal Denyne Wood (Jay) of Brilliant, great grandson, Dustin Wood, a sister Jean Dodd of Michigan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Brilliant Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Southern Care Hospice, 3835 Watermelon Rd., Suite 3, Northport, AL 35473, or Caring Days Adult Day Care at 943 31st East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.

Mrs. Grace Elaine Matlock, age 77 of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Groenewold and Alida Buikema Groenewold, and a step daughter Suzanne Matlock.
Mrs. Matlock is survived by her husband, Oscar Lewis Matlock, daughters, Michele (Jim) Hutchison of Indiana, Sheree (David) Church of Illinois, sons, Larry Scherp of Indiana, and a step son, Kenneth Matlock of Winfield, grandchildren, Joshua Shimer, Kristen Shimer, Kelly Garza, Andrew Castro, Elizabeth Matlock, Susan Matlock, Tiffany Matlock, and Kenneth Matlock Jr., 6 great grandchildren, sisters, Alice Jones, Shirley Prescott, Betty Kloptkowsky, 2 brothers, Frank Groenewold, and John Groenewold, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Matlock will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Hughes, age 69 of Winfield, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the U.A.B. Pallitive Care Center in Birmingham. Mrs. Hughes was employed with Health-Tex for many years until starting her own day care service, known as Mrs. Ann's Daycare.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, James M. and Lois Gilmore Motes, and a brother Billy Motes. She is survived by her husband of over 48 years, Mr. Coley Hughes, her daughter, Kelly Hughes of Winfield, a son, Scott (Sarah) Hughes of Homewood, grandchildren, Austin Swanigan, Alyssa Swanigan, and Evie Hughes, a sister, Brenda Gann (Ralph) of Jasper, a brother, Wayne Motes (Margerate) of MS, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Mt. Willing Cemetery. Michael Jackson Will officaite. A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Connie Faye Berryhill, age 86 of Winfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Country Place Senior Living Center in Winfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Myrtle Ward Downing, her husband, Dan Berryhill, a son, Darryl Berryhill, and 2 sisters, Topsy and June.
Mrs. Berryhill was a member and Sunday School teacher at Winfield First Baptist Church. Connie and Dan were owner/operators of Vickery Trading Post in Winfield for over 50 years. Mrs. Berryhill enjoyed taking active rolls and duties with her church, her family, several civic clubs, and loved passing the time with family and friends; especially her card playing clubs.
She is survived by her son, Vic Berryhill (Gail) of Alabaster, grandchildren, Jenifer Dimma, of Birmingham, Vicki McDaniel (Trey) of Helena, Trey Berryhill and Michelle Berryhill, both of Alabaster, a great grandchild, Shannon Davis of Helena, 2 sisters, Lee Moss of Victoria, MS, and Deane Warren of Palm Bay, FL, a brother, Stanley Downing of Olive Branch, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 from the Winfield First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Dr. Paul Murphy will officiate. The visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Friday at the church.
