Mr. James Charles Leonard, Sr., better known as “Papa Charles”, age 88 of Brilliant, departed this life to reside with his Heavenly family on December 8, 2017. He was born in Irondale, AL to Alphonso Paul and Lillian Herron Leonard on June 30, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alphonso Paul, Jr. “A.P.” Leonard, Herbert Edward Leonard and a son Reggie Stanford.
Charles served in the US Navy from June 1948 until January 1950 on the USS Tucker where he received the China Service Medal. He then enlisted in the Naval Reserve until January 1954. Following his discharge from the Navy, he was employed as a diesel mechanic in Odessa and Lamesa, TX until 2006, when he then returned to reside in Brilliant. Charles was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge for 67 years.
Mr. Leonard is survived by sons, J. C. Leonard, Jr. (Merryjo), Ben William Leonard(Audra) and daughters, Belinda Jo Doyle(Rick), Radonda Smith, Kim Clements(Steve) and Tammy Seely(Brett), 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, one brother, Jack Leonard(Pauline), sister in law, Rosie Leonard and a daughter in law, Mary Rachel Stanford, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Charles is also survived by his wife Margaret and their extended family, whom he loved as his own.
Funeral services he be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens, military honors will be presented at the graveside. Bro. Bryan Spiller and Rick Doyle will be the officiating ministers. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (service time) at the funeral home. Dale Prescott, Ricky Prescott, Tommy Green, Jody Green, Danny Green, Greg Bourland, David “Red” Mayfield, and Jeff Lindley will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Alabama, 1315 US Hwy 43 Winfield, AL 35594.

Mrs. Lillian V. Lambert Mitchell, age 79, passed away at her family residence on Saturday, December 9, 2017.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Tishomingo County MS, on September 2, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband Hoyt K. Mitchell.
Mrs. Mitchell was employed with Naomi’s Tanning Salon for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Mitchell Reese (Chris) of Winfield, grandsons, Alec Reese (Heather), Ethan Reese (Hannah) and Dylan Reese, a great granddaughter, Emily Reese, a sister, Sue Lambert Woodward of Ardmore, OK, and a brother, Houston Lambert of Gun Town, MS.

Mrs. Geneva Patton Bowling, age 82, of Winfield, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at her residence.
Mrs. Bowling is a member of the Brilliant Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Eva Mae Patton, her husband, Johnny C. Bowling, son in law, Harold S. Vickery, sisters, Mini Nausinger, Lizabeth Turner, Ellan Zacek, brothers, Jay W. Patton, George D. Patton and Bobby Dewayne Doss. Mrs. Bowling is survived by her children, Steve Bowling, Fronda Vickery, Kelly (Bob) Fenoff, Greg (Billiejo) Bowling, Dallas (Stephanie) Bowling, Joe (Kristen) Bowling, Nathan Bowling, Connie Sheryl Bowling, Mark McDonald, Wayne Simmons, Jay Woods, Chris Barnes, grandchildren, Amber Miller, Rachel Farris, Adrian Pope, Eric Vickery, Michael Fenoff, Sarah Fenoff, Jackson Bowling, Lilly Mae Bowling, Dorian Bowling, William, Bowling, Drew Bowling, Dawson Bowling, Dakota Bowling and Patric Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday December 4, 2017 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. Greg Webb will be the officiating minister.
The visitation will be 12:00 (noon) until 3:30 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Toni Kaye Underwood Stough, age 59, of Brilliant, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at her residence. Toni was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Faye Cain Underwood, grandparents, Clyde and Vena Underwood and Johnnie and Louie Cain.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Allan Stough, stepchildren, Angelica, Beth and Brittany Stough, sisters, Lori (David) Colley of Brilliant and Holli (Randy) Channell of Northport nieces, Whitney (Zack) Marks and Carly Channell and her puppy, Tipsy.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday December 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove cemetery in Fayette Co. Visitation will be held from 12:00 (noon) until 2:00 p.m. service time.
