Billy Howard Gilbert age 87 of Winfield, passed away at his residence on Thursday August 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard C. Gilbert, mother, Willie Ruth Posey Gilbert and a sister, Sherry Alvis. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Vanita McCaleb Gilbert, daughter, Kay Jones (Teddy), son Sidney Gilbert, daughter Amy Aldridge (Randy), grandson Dustin Jones (Laura), great grandsons, Marshall and Maverick Jones, a sister, Nancy Crowson, a brother, Michael Gilbert (Lynn), and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Billy grew up working on his parents’ farm in Corner, Alabama. Upon graduation from Corner High School in 1952 he joined the Air Force where he served for 6 years. He reached the rank of sergeant and was a flight engineer on B26 bombers. While serving he received the National Defense Service Metal, Good Conduct Medal, UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Germany).

After discharge from the Air Force, he worked for Liberty National Life Insurance Company for several years before starting his own business. In 1970 he and wife Nita opened Winfield Monument Company where they worked until their retirement.

Billy was a lover of animals, especially his horses and dogs. He made many friends over the years going on wagon rides and participating in the annual Mule Day Parade. He enjoyed life and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

A graveside service for Mr. Gilbert will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. from the Winfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Human Society of your choice in memory of Billy.

Mr. Terry Lee Townley age 69, of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in the UAB Medical Center. Mr. Townley was born on November 10, 1952 in Winfield, Alabama to Buford Lee “Boots” and Edra Tucker Townley. Terry attended Winfield City Family Church and was a 1971 graduate of Winfield City High School. He was employed with Smith Properties until his recent retirement. Terry enjoyed all kinds of music and was very well known for his guitar playing. He loved Alabama Football and spending time with his family and friends.

Terry is survived by his children, Traci Townley Ebbert (John) of Tuscaloosa, Zann Townley of Winfield, Zack Townley (Amanda) of Guntersville, and Zandria Townley of Winfield, grandchildren, Sadie Ryan, Canaan Ebbert, and Townsley Townley, brother, Tim Townley (Diane) of Russellville, sister, Darlene Townley of Tuscaloosa, nephew, Derek Townley (Chasity) of Morris, niece, Taylor Townley Reed (Blake) of Cullman, great niece and nephew, Cooper Townley and Emory Reed, special friend, Bonnie Markham, and life-long friend, Kim Townley, mother of Zann, Zack and Zandria.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Townley was preceded in death by Traci’s mother, Sandy Mills Miles.

Funeral services for Terry will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022 from the Winfield City Family Church with burial to follow in the Liberty Cemetery near Rock City. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the Winfield City Family Church, 3536 State Highway 129 Winfield, AL 35594.

Mr. James Earl Dickinson, age 58 of Interlachen, FL formerly of Muscle Shoals, Alabama passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022.

James was born on October 17, 1963 in Haleyville, Alabama to Russell Dickinson and Jacqueline Browning. He was a graduate of Hermitage High School in Richmond VA. He continued his education at Virginia Military Institute, (VMI) in Lexington, VA where he graduated with honors in 1986. James was a dedicated civil servant spending much of his life working for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 2019. James served his country in the United States Navy from 1986 until 1990, during his time he served in Operation Desert Storm as an Iraq Combat Naval Officer. He will always be remembered by his family as a very intelligent man, and for his witty sense of humor.

In addition to his parents James leaves behind his brother and best friend, David Dickinson, sisters, Carol Dickinson, and Paula Caroway, and many other beloved uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services for James will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bethel Church of Christ with graveside service to follow in the adjoining cemetery with military honors. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. service time at the church.

Mr. Belton Joe Turner age 76, of Millport passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 in the Diversicare Health Care Facility in Winfield. Mr. Turner was born on December 20, 1945 to Belton Paul and Pansy Gunnels Turner. Mr. Turner spent much of his life working in maintenance for Mississippi University for Women where he later retired.

Belton is survived by his daughter, Joanne T. Patrick, son-in-law, Marty Alloway, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Ann Turner, daughter, Donna Jo Turner Alloway, and a son, Danny Joe Turner.

A memorial service for Mr. Turner will be announced later.
