Mrs. Elizabeth Virginia Skelton, better known as Virginia, age 96 of Brilliant, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 12, 2025. She passed away in the South Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hoover, Alabama. Virginia was a devoted woman of faith, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Skelton was born on December 14, 1928 in Brilliant, Alabama, she was the cherished daughter of Charles Monroe Huguley and Mary Etta Hulsey Huguley. She was a graduate of Brillant High School and Birmingham Business College. She was employed with Alabama Association of Credit Executives in Birmingham for 35 years until her retirement. Virginia’s life was a testimony of grace, love and unwavering faith. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. Her gentle spirit, kind heart and steadfast prayers were a blessing to all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Marsha Skelton Parker and her husband, Dennis, her beloved granddaughter, Jessica Parker Newman and husband Jeff Newman, II, and two great grandchildren, Julieanne Newman Abston her husband, Jared and Jeff Newman, III and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Skelton was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Charlie “JC” Skelton, her parents and nine siblings, Ruby Norris, Helen Stanford, Eloise Lawrence, Herbert, Earl, Hermon, Rayburn, Charles, and Leon Huguley.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. service time. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to your favorite charitable organization or church in memory on Mrs. Skelton.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end Virginia’s faith assures us that she now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.

Gregory Scott Walker, age 55, of the Twin community passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at the Noth Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Scott was born on March 10, 1970 in Amory, Mississippi, to Jimmy and Shenna Burleson Walker. He was a longtime member of Philadelphia Church and a 1988 graduate of Marion County High School. That same year, Scott began his career with Continental Conveyor, where he worked for the last 38 years. Scott was known for his easygoing nature and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone-he truly never met a stranger. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, farming, tinkering with tractors and Ford trucks, and spending time outdoors.

Scott is survived by his 2 daughters, MaKaylee Carr (Matthew) and Marlee Robins (Daniel), his grandchildren, Mattie Jo Carr, Delia Ann Robins, and Harvey Robins, his parents, Jimmy and Shenna Walker, a special cousin, Emile Addison, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Ruby Walker, and Emit and Ammalee Burleson, his aunt, Elizabeth Addison, and his uncle, Johnny Walker.

Funeral services for Scott will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frances “Wynonia” Lawrence Ford, age 94, of Winfield passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, July 7, 2025. Wynonia was born on January 21, 1931, in Winfield, Alabama to James and Gladys Bussey Smith. She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday school for many years and cherished her church family. In 1951 she and her husband Bill moved to Kokomo, Indiana where they raised their family. While in Indiana, she worked with General Motors until her retirement in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s they returned to their hometown of Winfield, where she spent the rest of her years as a devoted homemaker. Wynonia enjoyed playing piano, tending her beautiful flower beds, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Ford is survived by her children, Bill Lawrence, Allen Lawrence, Frances Bradley (Everett), Glenda Striegel, and Donnie Lawrence, her grandchildren, Chris and Michael Kaylor, Brigg, Whitney, and Shane Lawrence, LaShelle Anderson (Mark), Leah Beasley (Patrick), Josh Cardwell, Eric and Austin Lawrence, and Mikki Maxwell (Jeff), 29 great grandchildren, stepchildren, Tobby Ford (Cheryl) and Teddy Ford (Patti), 4 step grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and church family.

Mrs. Ford was preceded in death by her husbands, William “Bill” Lawrence and Archie Ford, grandchildren, Ronnie Bradley and Amy and Adam Kaylor, great grandson, Braden Kaylor, a great-great grandson, her parents, and 6 siblings.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ford will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Charles Dan Mullins, age 84, of Brilliant passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 at his residence. Mr. Mullins was born on May 6, 1941 in Haleyville, Alabama to Charles and Ila Beauchamp Mullins. He was a member of Goldmine Church of Christ and a 1958 graduate of Brilliant High School. Dan spent his career as a dedicated and successful business owner in the coal industry. Outside of work, Dan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid NASCAR and Alabama football fan and loved watching westerns. Above all, he took pride in working hard and staying busy.

Mr. Mullins is survived by his wife of 37 years, Martha Mullins, his son, Chuck Mullins (Tina), his daughter, Dana Anderson (Ronny), stepson, Rodney Guthrie (Jade), grandchildren, Drew Mullins,(Lisa Ann), Ben Mullins (Loreanna), Milah Luster (Eric), Madeline Foster (Noah), and William Guthrie, great grandchildren, Charlotte Ray Mullins, Jameson Winn Mullins, Nhyomi Luster, and Nehlani Luster, and a host of other family members and friends.

Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by his parents, and a stepson, Greg Guthrie.

A graveside service for Mr. Mullins will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. from the Goldmine Church of Christ Cemetery.
