Mr. Tommy Houston Stiles, age 81, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Tommy was born November 27, 1943 to Houston and Ilene Sandlin Stiles, Tommy grew up in Winfield, Alabama, where he graduated from Winfield City High School. Tommy dedicated much of his life to hard work, spending many years at Nucor Steel before his retirement. Outside of work Tommy enjoyed watching Alabama football, riding horses, racing, and spending time with family.

Mr. Stiles is survived by his 2 daughters, Marisa and Miranda Stiles, his granddaughter, Marley Bennett, his sister Pam Guin, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Stiles, and his brother, Bobby Stiles.

Funeral services for Mr. Stiles will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. JoAnn Smith, age 86 of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, May 17th 2025. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Felix Metzger and Hattie Mae Thomas Metzger, and her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Ellis. Mrs. Smith was born and raised in Texas and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. In 1957, on a trip to California, she met and married the love of her life, Dexter Smith. While in California, JoAnn was a housewife, a mother to her three children and owner of a children’s clothing store and was very active in many church and community activities. In 1974, Dexter and JoAnn moved back to his childhood home of Winfield, AL. After moving to Winfield, JoAnn owned and operated “The Foxy Lady” clothing store in downtown Winfield. In 1981, after selling the store, she was employed with the new Winfield Wal-Mart until her retirement. After retirement she and Dexter traveled to various places all over the country, they always enjoyed taking the grandchildren and great grandchildren with them and making everlasting memories. Mrs. Smith was always strong in her faith and love for the Lord; she started a woman’s jail ministry at Marion County jail that was active for over 20 years, leading many souls to Christ. JoAnn was always so proud of the ministry and the work, saying it was her greatest and favorite accomplishment.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 67 years, Louie Dexter Smith, her children, Cindy Franks and her husband Donnie “Burr” Franks, Mike Smith and his wife Sandra, and Robin Curbow and her husband Jeff, her grandchildren, Michael Tucker, Kris Franks, and Leslie Phillips, her grandchildren, Quentin Tucker, Lexi May, Makayla May, and Kylah May, and a host of other relatives and many friends.

A private graveside service for Mrs. Smith’s immediate family will be held at West Alabama Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Jerusalem Prayer team at jerusalemprayerteam.org or the charity of your choice in memory of JoAnn.

Mrs. Nancy Marcelle Norris “Marcy” age 82 of Northport, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at her home. Marcy was born May 3, 1943 to Arthur A. and Mary Nan Tune Burgess in Winfield, Alabama. Marcy was a beloved wife, a very giving mother and grandmother “Nanny” who loved her grandchildren and great grands dearly. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Norris is survived by her daughters, Donna Huie (Bert) of Tennessee, Dana Hoyle (Jeff) of Tuscaloosa, and Tanya Simmons (Michael) of Northport, grandchildren, Justin Hoyle (Kelcie), Trent Huie (Jessica), Kate Campbell (Garrett), Lindsey Hoyle, Shelby Simmons, Courtney Christian (Parker), Kasey Phillips (Austin), and Tyler Simmons, 14 great grandchildren, 2 beloved pets, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Marvin Aubrey Norris, her parents, Arthur A. and Nan Burgess, brothers, Jerry, Joe, Jimmy, and Ronnie Burgess, and her sister, Carol Reed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Norris will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 12:00 noon at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon service time at the funeral home.

Augusta Mae Millwood Daniel left her Earthly home and arrived at her Heavenly home on May 5th, 2025, at the age of 78. Augusta was born on December 28th, 1946, to Gus and Mae Fowler Millwood and had a childhood filled with wonderful memories in Eldridge, Alabama. The youngest of three children, Augusta was the beloved baby of their family.

Augusta, better known as Mama or Mamo, to those who love her the most, was filled with both grit and grace. Her love for our lord and savior Jesus Christ was evident in her daily life, and she instilled that love into her children, God-loves, and all other loved ones. She was a proud member of Eldridge Church of Christ, and she thoroughly enjoyed the lunch plates they brought her every Thursday.

She met her true calling in life, becoming a mother, at the age of 18, when she gave birth to her son Billy Dewayne Stewart, and later to Ronda Stewart Tidwell and Heather Daniel Pate. They later gave her nine beautiful God-loves: Erynn Tidwell, Regan Tidwell, Grayson Stewart, Olivia Stewart, Anna Kate Stewart, Carter Pate, Noah Pate, Talbot Stewart, and Collins Pate. She was the best Mama and Mamo in the whole entire world. She loved them with her whole entire heart, and they loved her back just as much (although she would argue that she loved them more).

There was not a mountain that Augusta would not move for her children or God-loves, and she took every chance she could to tell others about how much she adored them and how proud she was of them. Augusta was the epitome of a hard-worker and fought tooth and nail to give her children the best life possible. She was a proud employee of Continental Conveyor for many years and always enjoyed the company picnics. Thank you, Mama, for working so hard to help make our dreams come true.

Augusta loved to spend time with her family, whether it be trips to Chattanooga to visit Grayson, Olivia, Anna Kate, and Talbot, or Huddle House and baseball games with Noah, Collins, and Carter. She would never turn down a good yard sale or tomato sandwich and shared her love of finding a great deal with her family. She also enjoyed her coffee with French vanilla creamer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Mae Millwood and her brother, Jerry Millwood.

She is survived by her best friends and children, Billy Stewart (Paige Stewart), Heather Pate (Darrell Pate), and Ronda Stewart Tidwell (Keith Tidwell); nine God-loves who adored their Mamo, Grayson Stewart (Marissa Parisek), Olivia Stewart, Anna Kate Stewart, Noah Pate, Carter Pate, Talbot Stewart, Collins Pate, Erynn Tidwell and Regan Tidwell. She is also survived by her loving older sister, Jean Holliday, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends that became family. A special thank you to Tammy Lynn for helping take such good care of Mamo, she loved her time with you.

We delight at the fact she has met Jesus face to face, but our earthly hearts are shattered by her loss. Mamo, our hearts are hurting but we are so happy that you are Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Eldridge Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Tucker Cemetery near Eldridge. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. service time at the church.
