Mrs. Shirley Ann Davis Whitehead, age 89 of Glen Allen, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 in the Diversicare Health Care Center in Winfield. Shirley was born in Union, South Carolina, on July 7, 1935 to Van and Ruth Small Gregory. She attended Union County High School. After graduation she joined the United States Air Force where she met her first husband, Joe Neil Davis. After completing her enlistment, she and Joe were married and were stationed in Wyoming, Alabama and France. While stationed in France Joe passed away suddenly at the age of 26. Shirley returned to Joe’s hometown of Fayette and remained there while she attended Shelton State, where she received her nursing degree and worked for many years in the Fayette and Winfield hospitals. She met Rusty Whitehead, and they were married in 1966. They raised their children in Glen Allen. She retired from nursing to become a full-time caregiver to her parents until their death. She was a member of the Oasis Church in Winfield for over 40 years.
Shirley is survived by her son, John Davis (Wanda), daughters, Sissy Sullins (Billy) and Gina Lynn (Byron), daughter-in-law, Debbie Whitehead, grandchildren, Jason, Greg (Kimberly), and Jonathan (Brittany) Davis, Heather May (Brad), Amber Whitson (Dusty), Ben Sullins (Carrie), Shondra Podmore (Keith), Peyton Whitehorn (Dakota), Angela Stiefel (Elijah), and Jennifer Robertson (Calan), her great-grandchildren, McKenzie Shade (Tyler), Rylee and Brady May, Zoe and Zander Whitson, Olivia Webb, Piper, Jackson and Rylie Davis, Willow Whitehorn, Chris and Brooklyn Podmore, Karley and Kennady Sullins, Kenzey Harding, Eleanor Stiefel, Elijah Jay Allen Stiefel, II, Rowan and River Robertson and a host of other relatives, church family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Davis and Rusty Whitehead, a son, Rex Whitehead, a son-in-law, Billy Sullins and her parents.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whitehead will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Morris Cemetery. The visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home. Mr. Daniel Grady Powell, age 70, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Powell was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 15, 1954 to Charles and Edna Fowler Powell. Grady attended Zion Missionary and East Side Baptist Churches. Before his retirement Grady spent 42 years and 5 months serving his country in the United States Army and National Guard. When he wasn’t serving Grady enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Grady is survived by his wife of 14 years, Cathy L. Powell, brother, Craig Powell (Valeria) of Texas, sister, Kathy Morris of Winfield, step children, Lonnie Spann (Stacey) and Danny Spann (Amy), grandchildren, Drew Spann, Erin Spann Wytiaz, Drake Spann (Kristan), Cody Spann (Keisha), Hannah Spiller (Zack), Kalie Grace Spann, and Hattie Claire Spann, 7 great grandchildren, fur baby, Tess, and a host of other family members and friends.
Grady was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Robin Turner Powell, son, Joshua Powell, brother, Ed Powell, and brother-in-law, Bill William Morris.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 2:45 p.m. from the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home at P. O. Box 8 Eldridge, Alabama 35554.

Mrs. Clydie Mae Sandlin, age 89, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility. Mrs. Sandlin was born in Fayette County, Alabama on December 17, 1935 to Luther and Ida Vickery Youngblood. She spent much of her life as a seamstress in area garment plants. In her spare time Clydie enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with family.
Mrs. Sandlin is survived by her daughter, Nita Starns and her husband Jim, grandchildren, Eric Sandlin (Etecha), Adam Sandlin, and Michael Starns (Karla), great grandchildren, Pheonix, Ken, Trinity, and Onyx Sandlin, and Asher and Liam Starns, her sister, Virginia Sue Ganey, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sandlin was preceded in death by her husband, James Randolph Sandlin, son, Randy Alan Sandlin, grandson, Shawn Sandlin, sister, Dorothy Moore, and brothers-in-law, Ivan Ganey and Neal Moore.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sandlin will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00p.m. service time at the funeral home.
