Mrs. Rebecca Sue Brown, age 65, of Winfield, formerly of Berry, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Fayette Medical Center. Mrs. Brown was born on March 15, 1961, in Jasper, Alabama, to James Lewis and Ola Mae Fondren Swindle. She attended Berry High School and later earned a degree in Medical Transcription from Bevill State Community College. She was employed for 16 years at Fayette Long-Term Care Center, where she began her career as a nursing aide and later served as the unit secretary until her retirement. Rebecca dedicated much of her life to helping others. She was a member of North River Rescue and faithfully served as an EMT for 35 years. In her spare time Rebecca enjoyed fishing, sewing, going out for Mexican food, and spending time with her family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul Brown; her daughter, Jenny Capps (Taylor); her granddaughters, Jenna Sullivan (Grayson) and Jordyn Simmons; her siblings, James Calvin Swindle, Judy Radcliff, and Barbie Ledlow (Dale); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Elaine Brown; her sisters-in-law, Donna Swindle and Norma Brown; and her brother-in-law, Bob Radcliff.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Berry. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown will lie in state on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. service time.

Mrs. Mona Lena Tidwell, age 89, of the Hubbertville community, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Fayette Medical Center. Mrs. Tidwell was born on February 13, 1937, in Fayette County, Alabama, to the late Verdo Johnson and Betty Ann Reese. She attended Hubbertville School and was a member of Hubbertville Church of Christ. Mona worked for many years in area garment plants before going on to help her husband own and operate Tidwell Fabric and Upholstery Shop, where they worked together for more than 20 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, tending her flower beds, canning, and sewing.
Mrs. Tidwell is survived by her husband, Tommie Tidwell; her daughter, Sabina Tidwell Hollingsworth; her granddaughters, Christina Renee and Catherine Grace Hollingsworth; her sister, Beddie Johnson Bobbit (Mark); special friends, David and Marty Tidwell and son Troy Tidwell Bubba; and a host of other family members and friends.
Mrs. Tidwell was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Nita Perry and Carlean Griffith; and her brother, Buster Johnson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tidwell will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Hubbertville Church of Christ Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be: David Tidwell, Troy Tidwell, Clifford Hollingsworth, and Brent Whitley. Scott Baggett will serve as officiating minister.

Maylene Dodd McWhirter passed away peacefully in her home on May 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was 79 years old.
Maylene was born and raised in Fayette County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Floyd Dodd and Estelle Sprinkle Dodd of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leon “Buck” Dodd and his wife, Nell Dodd, Donnie Dodd, Hoyt Dodd and his wife, Bobbie Jean Dodd, Dean Dodd, Bill Dodd, Joe Dodd, and Benjie Dodd.
Maylene is survived by her husband, Larry McWhirter; her daughters, Marlene Howell and her husband, Mark, and Amy McCown and her husband, Scott. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Daniel Howell and his wife Martha; Rachel Woolard and her husband, Brandon, and Andrew McCown. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Jenaleigh, Analeigh, Hayden, Lorelei, Naomi, Enoch, Eli, and Ezra. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Dodd and his wife, Maxine Dodd; Her sister, Rita Bailey and her husband, Elvis Bailey; and special sisters-in-law: Margaret Dodd (Donnie), Ann Dodd (Dean), Penny Dodd (Bill), Donna Dodd (Joe), and Kay Dodd (Benjie). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Maylene will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Sprinkle Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Robert Derrell Gann, better known as Snook, age 81, of Winfield, passed away at his residence on Friday, May 22, 2026. Mr. Gann was born in Marion County, Alabama on July 10, 1944, to Robert Claude and Birdie Jones Gann. He was a 1963 graduate of Brilliant High School and a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. Robert spent more than 40 years working in the coal mining industry as an underground miner with Gorgas and Shoals Creek Mines. Following a mining accident that resulted in the loss of part of his leg, he courageously continued working for another 30 years before his retirement. During his time at Gorgas, he also served as president of the local UMWA chapter. When not working, Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, listening to country music, and spending time with his family. Above all else, Robert loved worshipping and serving the Lord.
Mr. Gann is survived by his wife, Paulette Hickman Gann; his sons, Robert Scott Gann (Monica) and Chris Gann (Amanda); his grandchildren, Robert Braxton Gann, William Gann, Sarah Gann, Jeremiah Gann (LeAnna), Anna Gann, Savannah Gann, and Silas Gann; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Mr. Gann was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Claude and Birdie Gann; his brothers, J.B., Jesse, and David; and his sister, Bobbie.
