Mr. Walter Huey Box, Jr., better known as W. H., age 82 of Rock City, passed away peacefully at his residence. W. H. was born in Winfield, Alabama on September 12, 1942 to Walter Huey Box, Sr. and Linnie Miles Box.
He was a member of the New Hope Church of Christ and a 1960 graduate of Winfield City School. W. H. enjoyed working with his hands whether it was farming, raising cows, restoring Antique Farmall tractors, running excavating equipment, welding or working on diesel engines. In 2007 W. H. spearheaded the 1st Annual Antique Tractor show that was held on Mule Day and has continued to bring antique tractors of all kinds to the city of Winfield. In 2024 W. H. was honored during annual Mule Day parade as Grand Marshall.
Mr. Box is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Meharg Box, his daughter, Lisa Kaye Tesney and her husband Greg, grandsons, Tanner Tesney and his wife Delaney and Trey Allen Tesney, one great grandson, Walt Tesney, brothers, Wayne Box (Jerrie) and Bradley Box (Shelia).
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Robert W. Box.
Funeral services for Mr. Box will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
