Mr. Billy Joe Sims, age 88, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his children. Mr. Sims was born in Fayette County, Alabama on April 28, 1936 to Virgil Sims and Ila Mae Dodd. Billy Joe was a lifelong member of Deerfoot Parkway Church of Christ in Trussville, Alabama. He was a 1954 graduate of Hubbertville High School where he played football. Billy Joe later attended Shelton State Community College where he earned his degree as a barber in 1962. He was a well-known barber in his community and loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel and had many adventures throughout his life with his love for vehicles and motorcycles.

Mr. Sims is survived by his son, Danny Joe Sims, daughters, Sherry Denise Malone (Jeff) and Mava Jill Morse (Bobby), granddaughters, Nicole Anchors (Ryan), Brooke Malone, Katie Malone, and Brittani Blackwood, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Billy Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mava June Mills Sims, his brother, Jimmy Dewayne Sims, and his grandson, Brandon Blackwood.

Funeral services for Mr. Sims will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Whites Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
