Ida Jane Stott Campbell, 93, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away January 21, 2025. Jane was born on March 25, 1931, in the Pleasant Hill Community in DeKalb County, to the Rev. James Drayton Stott, Sr. and Charlsie Elizabeth Turner Stott. Jane professed her faith in Christ at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at the age of 16 and was baptized in Town Creek by her father.

Jane is a 1949 graduate of Fort Payne High School. She earned her elementary education certificate from Snead Junior College where she met a handsome young man, Garry Campbell, from Fyffe, Alabama. After being married in 1951, Jane and Garry were married for 46 years.

Jane and Garry were parents to five children and raised their family in Winfield, Alabama. Jane was an avid reader and always had the desire to learn something new. When all of her children were in school, Jane completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Alabama.

Jane was a wonderful wife and mother and also found great joy in teaching. Jane taught first grade at Brilliant Elementary for 27 years where she loved and cherished the Brilliant community. During her teaching career, Jane influenced over 600 students, mentored many beginning teachers, and made many life-long friends. Jane was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma for 50 years and Retired Teachers of Marion County.

Jane loved being a part of the Winfield community, too. She was a member of Winfield First Baptist Church and loved her church family. Jane worked and participated in every area of church life. She was also a member of the Studiosis Club and was often asked by different community groups to give a book review. At home Jane always had her Bible, the Alabama Baptist Newspaper and her Sunday School book by her recliner. She never grew tired of enriching her heart and mind in the knowledge of her Lord and Savior. The triangle of home, church, and community kept Jane busy, but not too busy to share one of her greatest gifts, friendliness.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Garry Campbell; by two precious daughters, Lydia Campbell Alexander and Elizabeth Campbell Hanks; by her brother, John Stott and her sister, Annie Ruth Goggans (Jack).

Surviving are her son, Stott Campbell (Janet); daughters, Phoebe Pate (Mitchell) and Sarah Smith (Jerry); sons-in-law, Louis Hanks and Chuck Alexander; her brother, James Stott; sisters-in-law, Clarice Stott and Barbara Pitts; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; several beloved nieces and nephews, and numerous friends, all of whom are considered cherished family members.
