Mr. Ted Weeks, age 91, of Winfield, passed away from this life on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his residence. He was the oldest of two children born to Max and Motie Belle Weeks on August 4, 1933 in Pickens County, AL. Ted had many jobs to do on his family’s small farm, plowing the fields with Ol’ Charley, protecting their chickens from predators, cleaning out the horse and cattle stalls, and helping his dad on many misc. projects. He attended Guin Elementary and Marion County High School in Guin, AL. Shortly after finishing High School, he was introduced to a sweet young girl from Wayside, AL named Iris Taylor. They immediately fell for each other and after about a year of dating, were married. While Iris was expecting their first child, Ted was drafted into the army and sent overseas to Japan. Terry was born in 1955 while Ted was away. With the help of Ted’s parents and some of her sisters, Iris cared for Terry until Ted was able to return home to them a year and a half later. In 1957, they had their second son, Phil, and this time she had the undivided help of her hard-working husband.

Ted was a devoted husband and father. He called Marion County home, though he lived at times in Birmingham, Pinson, Jasper, Columbus MS, and Florida, due to his occupation as an installer with Western Electric, later known as AT&T. He had an aptitude for anything mechanical and had a lot of experience in repairing engines of all kinds. He had a strong moral sense and was very protective of his family. His family was very important to him – his ancestors as well as his descendants. After he retired, he inherited the Old Homeplace where he grew up. He cleared out around it and kept it mowed until he was forced to quite due to his and Iris’s health issues.

He spent his final years on the property that belonged to his parents which is across the road from where his ancestors had lived for generations, and he was happy to be home.

He is survived by his sons, Terry and Phil Weeks (Beth); granddaughters, Savannah Weeks Roberts (Ken), Emily Weeks Manning (Luke), and Elizabeth Weeks; great grandchildren, Ethan, Ezra, Eli, and Lydia Manning; his sister Pat Langston (Jerry).
