Mrs. Lizzie Yvonne Smith, age 76, of Winfield, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at her daughters’ residence. Yvonne was born June 1, 1942 in Fayette County to Grady Jackson Harbin and Elsie Cella Smith Harbin. She retired from RELTOC, Mfg. in Winfield and became a stay at home grandmother. She enjoyed painting, sewing, working in her yard, spending time with her family and taking care of others.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Ellis Smith, brothers, James Alfred Harbin, Jackson Eugene Harbin, Tommy Harbin. Yvonne is survived by her daughters, Tammy Smith Aldridge (Jeff) of Winfield and Angie Smith Winkles (Wayne) of Winfield, a son that Mr. and Mrs. Smith helped to raise, Derrick Foster (Ashley) of Winfield, her grandchildren, William Dallas Aldridge, Skylar Reese, Summer Winkles, and Saylor Winkles, great grandchildren, Ashlynn Aldridge, Tenley Aldridge and Harper Aldridge, step grandchildren, Chip Aldridge and Brett Aldridge, a sister, Margaret Drummond (Phillip) of Northport, AL, brothers, Ted Harbin (Kathy) of Salyersville, KY and Danny Harbin (Rhonda) of Winfield. Special friend, Gene Locke of Winfield and her caregivers, Pat Taylor and Jeannie Hankins.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Brett Burleson will be the officiating minister. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home. Bowen Funeral Home serving the Smith family.
Mr. David Earl Nicholson, age 84, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at his residence. David is survived by his children, Gaylon Nicholson, Angie Parker (David) and Tony Nicholson (Donna), their mother, Martha Alice Benton, grandchildren, Ron Nicholson (Tabatha), Jessica Barnes (Danial), Kelli Sullivan, Drew Nicholson (Cassidy), Jason Cagle (Maudie), Paige Phillips (Patrick), seventeen great grandchildren, step children, Carl Hassler (Glenda) of Georgia and Sharon Holliday (Rick) of Sulligent, 3 step grandchildren, half-brother Terry Marshall of Birmingham, a half-sister, Betty Sue Moore of Winfield, nieces, Sharon Buzze of Texas, and Charlotte Garibay of Texas, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine Colburn Nicholson, and a brother Bill Gene Nicholson. Funeral services for Mr. Nicholson will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Liberty Cemetery near Rock City. Mrs. Darlene Dillard Tidwell, age 62, of Eldridge in the Barn Creek Community, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 in the Fayette Medical Center in Fayette. Darlene was a 1974 Graduate of Winfield City High School. Darlene was a member of the first graduating class from Bevill State where she earned her RN degree. She was employed with the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham in the heart holding lab.
Darlene is survived by her husband of nearly 43 years, Roy Dale Tidwell, and her children, Brandy Tidwell, Brian Tidwell and Derrick Tidwell, a granddaughter, Allie Grace Buchanan, a sister, Karen Chambers of Double Springs, Al. and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Dilliard and Margaret Johnson Dillard.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tidwell will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Tidwell Chapel Cemetery. Brother Marlin Mayfield will be the officiating minister. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
