Mrs. Florence Jerlene Haley Willis, age 85 of Eldridge passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. Willis was born in Walker County, Alabama on September 5, 1936 to Grady and Lorene Haley. She attended Hubbertville High School and retired from Son’s Grocery Store in Jasper, AL after 31 years of service.
Mrs. Willis is survived by her daughter, Sharon Handley of Eldridge, a son, Grady Willis of Huntsville, grandchildren, Tanya Swails of TX, Jessica Earnest (Scot) of Winfield, Amanda Price of Winfield, Crystal Bridgmon (Jeremy) of Eldridge, Brandon Simpson of Eldridge, Nikki Channell (Cecil) of Glen Allen, Hillary Shepherd of TX, Jace Willis of Florence and Demi Willis of Town Creek, 17 great grandchildren, daughters-in-law, Clinta Willis and Patricia Willis and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Willis, sons, John Willis and Richard Willis, a grandson, John Michael Pair, parents, Grady Haley and Lorene Eads Alexander, a sister, Barbara Rickles and two brothers, Ray Haley and Ralph “Nip” Haley and her son-in-law, Jim Handley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willis will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Kelley Cemetery. Mr. Bob Lee Linley, age 83, of Brilliant passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at his residence. Mr. Linley was born in Marion County, Alabama on December 10, 1938, to Mack and Essie Linley. Bob was a long-time member, Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Brilliant Freewill Baptist Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Brilliant High School. Mr. Linley was employed with Drummond Coal Company until his retirement in 2000. Bob was a logger and had his own logging crew during his spare and down time from the coal mines.
Mr. Linley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Franks Linley, son, Jeff Linley, daughter, Teresa Johnson (Jimmy), grandchildren, Jessica, Brad, Hunter, and Hayden Linley, and Jacob and Jennifer Johnson, great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Austin Berryhill, brother, Bill Linley, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Mr. Linley was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Linley and Essie Conway Linley, grandson, Zachary Wade Linley, great grandson, Preston Blake Berryhill, and a brother, Charles Linley.
A graveside service for Mr. Linley will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. from the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. Greg Webb will be the officiating minister.
Mr. Murry Benton Webb better known as Jack, age 87 of the Rock City Community passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his residence. Mr. Webb was born in Marion County on August 11, 1934 to Clement and Florence Butler Webb. He was a member of the Rock City Church of God and a 1955 graduate of Winfield City High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. Jack was stationed in Ft. Jackson, SC and Germany during his time of service. Mr. Webb worked most of his life in the coal industry in underground and surface mining, he was co-owner and operator of Rock City Coal & Equipment Company and Sun-Up Coal Company. He was a front-end loader operator, earning him the nickname, Loader-man Jack. Mr. Webb talked about working on his family’s farm at a very young age. Jack would speak often about his parents and how well he was raised by them and taught the meaning of hard work. Jack loved gardening, tending to his fruit trees, muscadines and scuppernong vines. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ, his family, church and his work.
Mr. Webb is survived by his wife of 59 years, Johnnie Grey Estes Webb, his daughter, Tammy Webb Cummings (Sonny) of Winfield, grandchildren, Jaclyn Carden (Alex) of Fulton, MS, Jud Cummings (Shannon) of Huntsville, Daniel Franks (Candace) of Guin, and Ciara Crawford (Josh) of Guin, his great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abigail Korah, Kyler, Alaina and Bella and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Murry Benton Webb, Jr., his parents, Clement and Florence Butler Webb, a brother, Buddy Webb, his sister, Anna Grace Tucker and special uncle, Walter Sexton.
Funeral services for Mr. Webb will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Griggs Place Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Betty Ann Willcutt better known as Ann, age 68 of Winfield passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Ann was born on August 11, 1953 to Aaron and Leona Smith in Marion County, Alabama. She was a member of the Brilliant Church of God and retired from Polly’s Restaurant in Guin after 20 years of service. Ann was a devoted sister, and friend and was dedicated to her church and to serving others.
Mrs. Willcutt was preceded in death by her husband, David “Whitley” Willcutt, her parents, Aaron and Leona Estes Smith, a sister, Rose Mary Smith and a brother, Donald Smith. She is survived by her brother, Ronnie Smith (Janet) of Winfield, sisters-in-law, Melissa Smith of Winfield, Gloria Jean Kimbrell (Wayne) and Martha Rich both of Brilliant, a host of nieces, nephews, church family and close friends.
