It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John Carl (Yank) Burgess, age 96 of Winfield. He passed away peacefully at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama on the night of November 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 70 years, Jackie Burgess.
He was born on May 18, 1928 in Rock City, Alabama, to John and Dreusilla White Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Willie Weeks and Ethel Pate, and his brothers, Marlin Burgess, Claude Burgess and A. Burgess.
Mr. Burgess is survived by two daughters, Carla Burgess and Greta Burgess, and two sons, Barry Burgess and Kevin Burgess, and his grandchildren, Kelly Black, Amy Wyatt, Tyler McGee, Brandi McDowell, Brittany Sellers, Emileigh Burgess, Alleigh Burgess, Annika Horne, and fourteen great grandchildren. He loved them all immeasurably and was known to all of them as Granddaddy.
He was a Shriner and a member of Winfield Mason Lodge #304. He loved the outdoors, especially gardening and fishing. He was an avid Alabama football fan.
Funeral services for Mr. Burgess will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. William Harold Jones, better known as Harold, age 78 of Winfield passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 in the Diversicare Health Care Center in Winfield.
Harold was born on March 6, 1946 in Guin, Alabama to Bill and Bertha Hosch Jones. He was a member of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church and attended Winfield City High School. Mr. Jones was employed for many years with various mobile plants in the surrounding area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Velta Ray Jones. He is survived by his brother, Gary Jones and his wife Alice of Guin and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mr. Jones will be held on Monday, November 25th at 11:00 a.m. from the Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Barbara Gail Ingram Bircheat, better known as Gail, age 85 of Winfield passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in the Grandview Medical Center. Gail was born in Winfield, Alabama on November 8, 1939 to Erskine and Mittie Jane Perry Ingram. She was a member of Winfield First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Gail was a 1959 graduate of Winfield High School. She spent many years employed as a seamstress with Winfield Manufacturing before her retirement. In her spare time Gail enjoyed watching football, going to the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
Gail is survived by her sons, Andy Bircheat and Tony Bircheat (Jean), her grandchildren, Scott Bircheat, Amanda Tolbert (Chris), Shawn Isbell, Heather Garrett (Josh), Zack Bircheat (Autumn), Kerri Britt, Kimberly Britt, and Kayla Churchwell, 20 great grandchildren, nieces, Karen Booth, Rebecca Scott, and Pam Ison, nephews, Mike Caudle, Dan, David, Bob, and Billy Flurry and Randy Bly, and a host of other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus R. Bircheat, and her sisters, Mary Nell Bly, Fay Caudle, Dorothy Sue Flurry, and Wynford Helen Ingram.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bircheat will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Phillip Webster Ballard, 73, passed peacefully on Friday, November 15th surrounded by family at home.
Born September 17th, 1951 in Fayette, Alabama, he was the son of James Daniel Ballard and Mary Lucille Webster Ballard.
Phillip was owner of Ballard Real Estate and Construction for 41 years and worked in construction for well over 50 years.
Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his parents, his niece Mechelle Henderson, and his nephew Jonathan Wade Ballard. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margie Ballard; three children, Chris Ballard (Kelly), Brandy Hydrick (Brian) and Brent Ballard (Kari); six grandchildren, Nick Ballard, Lexie Mae Hydrick, Conner Ballard, Oscar Hydrick, Jolene Ballard and Lulu Ballard; sister, Danna Howell (Phil); brother, Warren Ballard and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Phillip will be held on Tuesday, November 19th at noon with visitation from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Phillip’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to White Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in the care of Carolyn Youngblood, 5803 Sand Springs Road Winfield, AL 35594.
