Mr. William Brown “B” Burleson, age 92, of Winfield, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Northwest Medical Center. Born October 25, 1932 in Winfield, Alabama, he was the son of Alves and Lula Era Smith Burleson. A lifelong resident of the community, Willie B was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ. He attended Bobo Elementary School and Hubbertville High School where he excelled as a football player. After high school, he married the love of his life, Jeanette McCaleb Burleson. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Willie B began his career with H&H Robertson in 1951, working as an ironworker and later as a field agent. In 1964, he joined Continental Conveyor, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. His career took him across South America, Egypt, Indonesia and nearly every state in the Union, earning the respect of everyone he worked with. Willie B had a passion for fishing and was a member of the Winfield Bass Masters. In 1973, he set the Alabama state record for catching a 35-pound spoonbill catfish, a record he held for nearly 50 years. He cherished the days he got to spend fishing with his buddies. Willie B was a devoted family man; he loved spending time with his grandchildren and loved ones. He also enjoyed watching Alabama football and telling stories. Known for his honesty and straightforward nature, Willie B was a man who always told it like it was. He was a hardworking, loyal, and respected person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Mr. Burleson is survived by his son, David Alan “Burlu” Burleson, grandchildren, Kacie Coats (Josh), Kayla Rush (Brock), and Cody Dodd (Caroline), great grandchildren, Karlee and Blade Coats, Chloe Brown, Baylor, Lawson, and Diana Grey Rush, and Eloise and Beckham Dodd, and a host of nieces, nephews, great family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burleson was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette McCaleb Burleson, daughter, Diana Sue Burleson, brother, Wendall Burleson, sisters, Ruth Kendrick and Mary Ann Harrod, brothers-in-law, Clarence Harrod and Herchel Kendrick, and sister-in-law, Joyce Ann McCaleb.
Funeral service for Mr. Burleson will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. from the Winfield Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The body will lie in state on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. service time at the church. The visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Winfield Church of Christ.

Mr. Marvin Aubrey Norris “Watermelon” age 83 of Northport, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home. Marvin was born on April 14, 1942 to Marvin A. and Jessie Shirey Norris of Brilliant, Alabama. Marvin served in the U.S. National Guard for 7 years. He later worked on Nuclear Submarines in Mississippi, before moving on to BF Goodrich where he worked until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching Alabama football, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcelle Norris, daughters, Donna Huie (Bert) of Tennessee, Dana Hoyle (Jeff) of Tuscaloosa, and Tanya Simmons (Michael) of Northport, sister, Gustave McKenzie, grandchildren, Justin Hoyle (Kelcie), Trent Huie (Jessica), Kate Campbell (Garrett), Lindsey Hoyle, Shelby Simmons, Courtney Christian (Parker), Kasey Phillips (Austin) and Tyler Simmons, 14 great grandchildren, 2 beloved pets, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Jessie Norris, brothers, Felton Norris and Donald Norris, sisters, Geneva Corkren and Mavis Price.
Funeral services for Mr. Norris will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 12:00 noon at the Bowen funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Constance Genene Farley, age 77, of Brilliant passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Born in Gordo, Alabama on July 20, 1947, she was the daughter of Richard Bruce and Edna Earl Connell Lowe. She attended Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church. Genene was a graduate of Central High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in special education from the University of North Alabama. Genene devoted 15 years as a teacher at Phillips and Brilliant schools before her retirement, she also served her community as a trusted tax preparer, a role she fulfilled since the 1970’s. In her free time Genene enjoyed socializing with friends and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Farley is survived by her sons, Kevin Farley (Stormie), and Dexter Barnett (Judy), grandchildren, Kevin Blake Farley (Lindsey) and Brittany Hyde (Kevin), great grandchildren, Kellan Dean Farley, Mason Adkins, Preston Blake Farley, Rylee Khol Peoples, and baby Hyde that’s on the way, brother, Robert Lowe, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farley was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Amos” Farley, son, Dewayne “Opie” Farley, and a brother, Benny Lowe.
Funeral services for Genene will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Donald Ralph Overton Sr., better known as “Buddy,” age 87, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday April 20, 2025, his 87th birthday. Buddy was born on April 20, 1938, in Brilliant, Alabama to Ralph and Sally Flippo Overton. A graduate of Brilliant High School in 1957, Buddy went on to serve his country for 4 years in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. It was there that he met the love of his life, Charlotte, and their connection resulted in a 62-year marriage filled with love. After his military service, Buddy worked as a butcher for Piggly Wiggly in Haleyville until his retirement. Outside of work, Buddy loved being outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and searching for arrowheads.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Overton, his 3 children, Don Overton (Janet), Sharon Evers (John), and Keith Overton, his grandchildren, Shelby Rhudy (Josh), Morgan Evers, Kerington Overton, Elliott Overton, and Claire Overton, Will Nelson, great granddaughter, Adaline Rhudy, brother, Bill Overton (Leatrice), and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Roland Overton.
Funeral services for Mr. Overton will be held on Wednesday, Aprill 23, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
