Mr. Michael Allen Raburn, age 65, of Winfield passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at his residence. He was born on August 1, 1959, in Texas to Ted and Beverly Nichols Raburn. Michael was a graduate of Winfield City High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Auburn University and a master’s degree from the University of Salamanca in Spain. A dedicated educator, Michael began his career teaching high school Spanish at Lassiter High School. He later became a Spanish professor at Kennesaw State University, where he taught countless students until his retirement.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Alex Raburn, his siblings, Dwayne Raburn and Cathy Raburn, his partner, Jesse Rivers and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Beverly Raburn and sister, Lisa Raburn Chaffin.

Mrs. Elease Brazil Box, age 86, of Winfield, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, June 21, 2025 surrounded by her family. Elease was born on July 18, 1938 the daughter of Arthur Carl and Louise Mayfield Brazil. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Winfield. Elease was a talented seamstress whose skill brought joy to countless people with beautiful dresses and clothing. Her passion for traveling led her across the United States with her dear friend Brenda Sanders, and she cherished each trip, recalling every detail with fondness.

Mrs. Box is survived by her daughters, Debby Posey and Marie Gray (Walt), her sons, Heath Bowen (Jo Anne) and Lyndon Box (Lesleigh), her grandchildren, Nicolas Posey (Stacie), Kenton Bowen (Kristen), Joey Gray (Kim), William Box, Lucy Box, and Grace Box, great grandchildren, Cohen Gray, Asher Posey, Thomas Bowen, and Brian Bowen, and a host of other family members and friends.

Mrs. Box was preceded in death by her husband, Wille F. Box, her parents, Carl and Louise Brazil, brother, Rayford Brazil, and sister, Jane Evans.

Funeral services for Mrs. Box will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Winfield with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. service time at the church.

Mrs. Jennifer Jean Hedrick, age 54, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the North Mississippi Medical Center-South Marion. She was born on March 28, 1971 in Orange, California, to Michael Joseph and Kathleen Ellis Terrian. Jennifer was a 1989 graduate of Mt. Whitney High School. In 1993, she relocated to Brilliant, Alabama where she attended Bevill State Community College, earning her RN degree in 1998. For over 20 years, Jennifer dedicated her career to caring for others as a nurse with DCH at the Fayette Medical Center. She enjoyed many hobbies, some of which were fishing, listening to music, camping, hiking, mowing grass, reading, and especially spending time with family.

Jennifer is survived by her children, Steffaney Hedrick (Brie), Emily Martin (Matthew), Tyler Hedrick (Kaitlyn), and Ashley Hedrick (James), her parents, Michael and Kathleen Terrian, her grandchildren, Aiden and Jaxon Martin, Castiel Hedrick, Dacien Goodwin, Mason Hedrick, and Remington Stanaland, her sister, Catherine Jackson (Sam), niece, Heaven McDowell, nephews, Mark Adamski, Joey Terrian, and Caden Norris, and a host of other family members and friends.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Joseph Terrian Jr., and her grandparents.

A memorial service to celebrate Jennifer’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Louie Dexter Smith better known as Dexter, age 88, of Winfield passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025 in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. He was born on July 13, 1936, in Winfield, Alabama to Vester and Nellie Vickery Smith. At the age of 9, Dexter and his family relocated to California, where he graduated from Oxnard High School in 1954. In 1957 he married the love of his life JoAnn, and together they built a beautiful family. Dexter worked as a contractor, building hundreds of homes across Southern California. In 1974, he returned to his hometown of Winfield, along with his wife and 3 children to retire. However, retirement was short-lived, and Dexter resumed his passion for construction and built many homes in Winfield before retiring again 20 years ago. A devout Christian, Dexter was a member of Guin First Baptist Church and attended faithfully until his health no longer allowed. He was well known for his generosity and was always willing to help those in need. Dexter always enjoyed music and was self-taught to play the guitar and steel guitar.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Cindy Franks (Donnie “Burr”) and Robin Curbow (Jeff), his son, Mike Smith (Sandra), grandchildren, Michael Tucker, Kris Franks, and Leslie Franks, great grandchildren, Quentin Tucker, Lexi May, Makayla May, and Kylah May, sister, Helen Martin, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, JoAnn Smith, brother, Randy Smith, and sister, Florence Deutsch.

A private family graveside service for Mr. Smith will be held at West Alabama Memorial Gardens.
