Dena Elizabeth FlippoDena Elizabeth Flippo age 93, died peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2016 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Winfield, Alabama. Dena was a wonderful, caring, sweet lady. She was a devoted wife to Melvin for 75 years, a loving mother and grandmother. She loved and cherished family and enjoyed nothing more than having them all stay in her little house on Baker Street in Winfield, and it didn’t matter how many. Whenever family came together there, the house overflowed with laughter and love. 

In earlier years, Dena was a seamstress and did tailoring, made wedding dresses, formal gowns and could sew just about anything anyone needed. She loved crafts and did upholstering, knitting, quilting and many other artistic crafts. She loved nature and enjoyed taking rides in the countryside to look for animals. She was truly loved by all whose lives she touched. 

She is survived by her sons, Bobby (Beckie) Flippo and Tony (Kathy) Flippo, grandchildren: Pam Carlson, Liz Aldridge, Tommy Flippo, Jane Kennedy, Tina Shaw, Andrea Bennett, Angela Gustafson, Nigel Flippo, Dylan Flippo a host of great and great great grandchildren and a daughter in law, Carolyn Flippo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bessie Conner Reed, sons, William E. and Billy Flippo, grandson, Bobby Melvin Flippo, sisters, Zeller Mae Stiner, Vena Maddox & Geneva Keenum, and a brother, JC Reed. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 17, 2016 from the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church. Bro. Mike Beckon will be the officiating minister. The visitation will be held from 11:30 until 12:30 (service time) on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Mr. Odis Leroy GreenMr. Odis Leroy Green, age 95 of Brilliant, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.  Mr Green was a United States Army WWII Veteran; a combat infantryman serving during the European campaign, recieving the WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, the European, African, and Middle Eastern Service Medals with 3 Bronze Stars.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Nora Beasley Green, his wife, Loree Eads Green, a sister, Imogene Hallmark and her husband Renley, and a niece, Wanda Butler.  Mr. Green is survived by his sons, Tommy (Judy) Green of Winfield, and Jody (Robin) Green of Brilliant, grandchildren, Judd Green of Winfield, and Brenda Estrada of Winfield, and a great niece, Leah Butler of Winfield.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens.  David Sexton will be the officiating minister.  The visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Green family. 

Ramona ButlerMrs. Ramona Rae Butler, age 57 of Guin, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. 

Ramona was a graduate of Brilliant High School, and served the Marion County area for many years as First Responder and Medic. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Prentice and Lucille Webb Burleson. She is survived by her husband James "Jimmy" Butler, a son, Travis (Farrah) Garrison of Winfield, a daughter, Elizabeth (Paul) Carter of Winfield, grandchildren, Austin Carter, Jordan Garrison, Regan Pendley, and Ty Garrison,  a sister, Sharon (Doug) Graham of Vernon, and special friends, Will and Angie Riley, Tommy Knight, and Angie Stricklin. 

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Fairview Cemetery.  Dr. Paul Murphy will officiate. 

The visitaton will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Estelle StricklinMrs. Estelle Stricklin, age 95 of Hoover, formerly of Brilliant, passed away on December 6, 2016 at Brookwood Hospice in Shelby County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lillian Myers Nelson, husband, Alvin Stricklin, a daughter, Pat McGuire Cole,  sisters, Annell Spiller, Willie Kimbrell, and Hazel Nelson, and 2 brothers, Clyde Nelson and H.B. Nelson. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Burnett (Walter) of Hoover, grandchildren, Alan McGuire (Carla) of Louisiana, and Jerri Burnett of Moody, great grandchildren, Sean McGuire, Jameson McGuire, Melissa McGuire, Mac McGuire, and Shae Ganus, great great grandchildren, Emmersen, Chandler, and Bennett Ganus, sisters, Donna Doss of Brilliant, Carolyn Spiller (Lonzo) of Pleasant Grove, and Flo Reynolds of Decatur, and 2 brothers, Bob Nelson (Norma) of Guin, and Wayne Nelson (Clara Faye) of Guin.  Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win.  James Ray Pridmore and Bryan Spiller will officiate.  The visitation will be from 12:00 noon unitl 1:00 p.m. (service time) on Friday at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Stricklin  family.
