Bobby Gene Marshall, age 84, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 29, after an extended illness.

Bob was born in Winfield, Alabama, on January 21, 1939 to Glen and Adell Dickinson Marshall. He was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ and a 1957 Winfield High School graduate.

His first career was in minor league baseball, signing with the San Francisco Giants organization farm team and working his way up to the Fresno, CA club. Returning to Winfield he managed the local Shermans Store, retired from Wal-Mart as assistant manager, and finished his careers at 3-M. He also served in the Alabama National Guard.

Loving the game of baseball and working with young people, Bob was proud of being the first coach in Winfield for Little League baseball, as well as coach for the first girls’ softball league. He also played for Winfield Merchants Softball League and the Independent Baseball League. He was later honored by being inducted in the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jimmie Lou, daughter, Dianne Estes (Bobby Gene) of Winfield, son, Jeff Marshall (Karen) of Alabaster, grandchildren, Jennings Earnest, Barrett Earnest, Kamden Marshall, and Jack Marshall, sister Glenda Vaughn, brother, Bill Marshall, and beloved Marshall and Webster relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Officiating minister will be James Wyers, Winfield Church of Christ.
