Mrs. Carmela LaGala Chestnut, age 86 of Winfield passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. Carmela was born to Fernando LaGala and Vicenza Peruzzi on October 12, 1933 in Naples, Italy. She was a member of the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church, and was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Billy Chestnut (Patricia) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Lisa Chestnut Young, of Winfield, her grandchildren, Brandi Segraves (Chris) of Winfield, Jennifer Hood (Kody) of Double Springs, Olivia Franklin (Nate) of Jacksonville, FL, Rafaella Chestnut of Winfield and Nicolai Chestnut (Kariann) of Fredericksburg, VA, fourteen great grandchildren, Malachi, Haly, Makenzie, Lacey, Roman, Sophia, Gianna, Dylan, Will, Brinlee, Kane, Kellan, Kabree, Kinlee, and one on the way, a sister, Antonietta Livingston (Charles) of Lincoln, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Carmela was preceded in death by her husband, John Chestnut, parents, Fernando LaGala and Vicenza Peruzzi, a daughter, Dora DeFortis, sisters, Maria LaGala and Anna Gill, her brother, Salvatore LaGala, and son in law, Wade Young.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chestnut will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win. Brother Kent Nelson and Brother Danny Williams will be the officiating ministers. The visitation will be held on Friday August 21^st from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (service time) at the church.
