Sam Roger Adkins, age 88, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at DCH Medical Center in Fayette. He was born on January 13, 1938 in Guin, Alabama to Connie Sam and Lucille McDaniel Adkins. Roger grew up during the Great Depression, when his family lived in a log cabin before eventually moving to Moline, Illinois, in search of work. Roger was a faithful Christian whose faith was an important part of his life. He was a current member of the Winfield Church of Christ and had previously been a longtime member of New Hope Church of Christ where he faithfully served as an elder for many decades. Among his greatest sources of pride were his four children. He was especially proud that each of them was a Christian first and college educated second. Roger was also a dedicated and hard-working man throughout his career. He helped build the 3M plant and remained employed there for 35 years before retiring at the age of 55. Roger enjoyed spending time at some of his favorite places, including Smith Lake and Gulf Shores.
Roger is survived by his children, Mac Adkins (Kim), Cindy Webster (Randy), Amy Meherg, and Debbie Adkins; his grandchildren, Andrew and Annabelle Adkins, Sam Webster (Courtney), Haley Webster, Paige Randolph, Blake Meherg (Bailey), Ben Meherg (Mikela), Michelle Prince, and Rachel Dixon (Brandon); his great-grandchildren, Bristol, Garrett, Anderson, Banks, Bentley, Boone, Hannah, and Amelia; one great-great grandchild, Navy; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Adkins; his son, Richard Adkins; his grandson, Scott Randolph; grand son-in-law, Joe Prince; his parents; Connie Sam and Lucille Adkins; and his sister, Johnnie Faye Gilbert.
Funeral services for Mr. Adkins will be held on Tuesday, October 6th at 2:00 p.m. from the Winfield Church of Christ with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the church.
