Sammy Jackson Wyers, 75, passed away at his home in Winfield, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born in Winfield, Alabama, to the late James Marshall and Frankie Lee Wyers. He was a 1969 graduate of Winfield City High School and a graduate of Northwest Alabama State Junior College with a degree in Forestry. After college, Sammy worked for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company for 24 years and then began his own timber and land management business, where he remained until he became disabled.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deborah (Debi) Swindle Wyers and his sons, Adam (Sandy), Paul (Nicole), and David (Deana) Wyers. His grandchildren, Ellie Wyers, Makayla Poole (Taylor), Bonds Wyers, Hannah Carter (Austin), Brayden Wyers, Tripp Wyers, Sam Henry Wyers, Isabella Wyers and great-granddaughter, Annslee Carter, lovingly knew him as “Pop”. Sammy has one brother, James Franklin Wyers (Loretta), special nieces Marsha Farris (Daryl) and Lana Wyers, and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and many friends. Sammy loved his cousin, Ernie Black, like a brother.

Sammy was a faithful member of Winfield Church of Christ and over the years served as a Bible class teacher, song leader, deacon, and elder. For years he enjoyed and looked forward to Vacation Bible School where he was part of the puppet show team and was better known as “Scooter”. He enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting – especially with his sons. His community involvement over the years included serving on the Winfield Water Works Board, Winfield Park & Recreation Board, and coaching youth baseball and football.

Service will be held at Winfield Church of Christ. Visitation Monday, July 27, 2026, 1:00-3:00 and service to follow at 3:00PM.
