Roy Dale Tidwell, age 72, of Eldridge, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Born on September 11, 1953, in Winfield, Alabama, Roy was the son of the late J.T. and Jessie Nell Whitehead Tidwell. A hardworking and dedicated man, he devoted 33 years of service to Drummond Coal Company at the Shoal Creek Mine. When he wasn’t working, Roy loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, tending to his garden, and making trips to the mountains. More than anything, he treasured time spent with family.

Mr. Tidwell is survived by his children, Brandy Tidwell, Derrick Tidwell (Kelly), and Brian Tidwell (Amanda); his grandchildren, Allie Grace Buchanan, Brooks and Brylee Bowen, Eli South, and Amethyst Weeks (Caleb); his great granddaughter, Della Weeks; his siblings, J. Tex Tidwell (Debra), Ricky Tidwell (Amanda), Betty Aldridge (Bobby), and Vickie Sitdham, (Randall); his sister-in-law, Debbie Tidwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tidwell was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Tidwell; his brother, J.L. “Derm” Tidwell; and his sister-in-law, Karen Chambers.

Funeral services for Mr. Tidwell will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Tidwell Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
