Terry Van Whitson, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Terry was a proud U.S. Army veteran, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the longtime owner and operator of Terry’s Paint & Body, where he faithfully served his community for many years. Through his dedication, hard work, and honest craftsmanship, he earned the respect and friendship of countless customers and friends. Terry will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met.
He is survived by his children, Casey Whitson, Courtney Fowler (Steve), Travis Whitson (Maegan), and Cody Oelberg (Kayme). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve Whitson (Jackie) and Dudley Whitson (Kelly); his sister, Leanne Atkinson (Scott); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Juanita Whitson.
Terry’s greatest pride was his family, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Whether serving his country, helping his customers, or lending a hand to a friend in need, he lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and dedication. His legacy of love, service, and hard work will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and the community he so proudly served.
A graveside service for Terry will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. from the Union Chapel Cemetery, 235 Union Chapel Rd, Winfield, AL 35594.
