Mr. Roger Phillip Sanders, age 78, of the Twin community, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 in the North Mississippi Medical Center-South Marion. He was born in Hamilton, Alabama on June 14, 1947 to William Arley and Mattie Lee Finch Sanders. Roger was a graduate of Minor High School. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage, commitment, and honor. His time in service was a defining chapter of his life, and he carried that sense of duty and resilience throughout the years. Then continued to serve our country over the next 25 years with the federal government.
Roger will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved his hometown of Winfield, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, 1950’s music, crossword puzzles, and even napping on the roof. His life was marked by countless free throws, running a successful bed and breakfast, laughing with his kids and grandkids, and eagerly anticipating the next project his wife gave him. Mr. Wonderful’s (as he was nicknamed years ago) life goal was to find the perfect writing pen and used those to fill notebooks about his childhood and dreams. He never found a ladder he couldn’t fall off or said no to phone call duets with his daughter. If you knew him, you laughed with him.
Roger is survived by his wife, Linda Leach Sanders, his children, Emily Sanders, Carol Sanders, and Will Sanders (Nicole), his step children, Lynn Kiern (Paul), Andrew Sharpe, and Jeremy Sharpe (Michelle), his grandchildren, Andrew Sanders, Tyler Kiern, and Aiden Sharpe, brother-in-law, Charles Letchman, niece, Cynthia Letchman, nephew, Chuck Letchman, and a host of other extended family members and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his grandson, Nathan Kiern, his parents, William and Mattie Lee Sanders, his sisters, Dr. Shirley Sanders Letchman and Barbara Duchock, and brother-in-law, Johnny Duchock.
Funeral services for Mr. Sanders will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
