Mr. Walter “Elzo” Whitehead, age 83, of Glen Allen, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at his residence. He was born on May 19,1942, in Winfield, Alabama to Sanford and Willie Harbin Whitehead. Elzo was a devoted member of Berea Church of Christ and was well known throughout Winfield, Fayette, and surrounding areas for his many years of skilled carpentry work. Elzo was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved sharing his knowledge and talents. Whether teaching his family the tricks of the trade in carpentry, showing them how to plant a garden, or spending a day fishing, he always led by example.
Mr. Whitehead is survived by his sons, Gary Whitehead (Vickie) and Tim Whitehead (Paige), grandchildren, Chad Whitehead (Jessie), Brad Whitehead (Chesley), and Kayla Smith (Sammy), great grandchildren, Connor, Peyton, Chloe, Caylee, Aubree, Brooke, Luke, and Kyson, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Whitehead, grandson, Justin Whitehead, and his brothers, Roland, Arlon, and James Ralph Whitehead.
Funeral services for Elzo will be held on Friday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m. from the Berea Church of Christ with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the church.
