Mr. James Douglas Tarwater, age 76, of Guin, Alabama passed away on May 29, 2025 at his residence. Born on April 16, 1949, he was the son of Wyman and Addilou Nix Tarwater and one of 10 siblings. James attended Marion County High School and left during his senior year to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was stationed in Germany, during his service to his country. James spent much of his life as a paint and body technician at Fender Benders in Hamilton, where he worked for more than 15 years until his retirement. James enjoyed going to yard sales, hanging out in local coffee shops socializing with friends, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Tarwater is survived by his children, Tim Tarwater (Lisa) and Christy Langley (Phil), his grandchildren, Brooklynn Gann (Eric), Harper Langley, Ryan Tarwater, and Skyler Tarwater, great grandchildren, Collin Riley and Haisley Gann, his sister, Janice Ingle, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tarwater was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly Tarwater, great grandchildren, Braxton Kade and Rylan James, brothers, Milton and Billy Joe Tarwater, and sisters, Betty Rawls, Dorothy Zuber, Shelby Tuckey, Belvy Haney, Linda Tarwater, and Becky Hubbert.
Funeral services for Mr. Tarwater will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
