William Lee “Billy” Gibbs, age 59 of Brilliant passed away in the North Alabama Hospital in Florence, Alabama on March 4, 2024, after a extensive surgery. William was born in Winfield, AL on March 3, 1965 to Maxwell and Mary Frances Moore Gibbs.

He was a well-known Paramedic in the area. He was also the Brilliant Fire Chief for several years.  He offered CPR classes and worked with school age children concerning safety and first aid. During bad weather he would deliver groceries to the elderly or others in need. He was well known in this area through his work with law enforcement and numerous community needs.  He was known for his big heart and handsome smile. William suffered a traumatic brain injury from a medical procedure. After years of being kept at home by family and sitters, he moved to Hendrix Healthcare and Rehab in Double Springs, Alabama.

He is survived by his sister, Gracie (Wendell Jan Franks), sister-in-law, Gwen Gibbs, nieces and nephews, Wendell Harrison Franks, Leslie Paige (Andrew) Botzer, Jeremy Richard (Holly) Gibbs, Jillian Carol (Jay) Cox and Joseph Wendell (Ashley) Gibbs, great nieces and nephews, Taegan and Tinsley Franks, Gracen and Henderson Smith, Jala Kate and Maxwell Gibbs, Zoey and Maverick Cox, Grey and Jack Gibbs, and Siena, Sabrina, and Sophia Botzer along with several cousins, and a multitude of friends, neighbors and former patients. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell and Mary Frances Gibbs and a brother, Richard Maxwell Gibbs as well as his grandparents and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Gibbs will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
