James Douglas “J.D.” Hawkins passed away Thursday morning, February 23, 2024 at his residence in Guin, Alabama. He was born in Amory, Mississippi to the late Clytee “Yank” Hawkins and Mary Sue Cantrell Hawkins.

J.D. was the owner/operator of J.D. Trucking Company and was known as “Clem” to his trucker buddies. He was a lifelong trucker and mechanic. He could diagnose and repair anything. J.D. was a jack of all trades and was always helping others with car repairs or home projects. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and always with a smile on his face. He liked to tell jokes and make others laugh. J.D. loved to watch westerns on TV and after retirement, discovered YouTube. J.D.’s heart was with his family, his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. They all brought out the biggest smile and hugs from their pawpaw.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Lynn and Jason Hawkins, sister, Glenda Cook, niece, Kimberly Hawkins and nephew, Dewayne Cook.

Survivors include, his wife, Deborah McAlpin Hawkins, son, Tony Hawkins, three daughters, Christie and Stephanie Papiani, and Michelle Papiani Carruth (Brent), grandchildren, Hannah Papiani, Joseph and Carson Miles, Macy Miles (Steel), Collin Carruth (Tatum), Sydney and Madison Carruth, Jade Whitlock (Austin), and Corey, Garrett, Jasmine, Tripp, and Riley Hawkins, great grandchildren, August Mills, Kolton and Kenzie Papiani, Fallon and Janie Whitlock, and with baby Kayson and baby Carruth on the way and a sister, Linda Hawkins Cantrell.

Funeral services for J.D. will be held on Monday, February 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Mt. Willing Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. service time at the funeral home.
