Billy Stough

Wiliam Thuman "Billy" Stough, age 65 of Winfield passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Annie Morris Stough, and a brother Carroll "Rooper" Stough. Billy is survived by his son, Paul (Carolyn) Stough of Winfield, 2 daughters, Annette Stough (Denver) Snow of Winfield, and Mary (Jessee) Tucker of Hubbertville, a sister, Melba (Gary) Roberts of Guin, 2 brothers, Boyd (Ruth) Stough and Kenneth (Judy) Stough, both of Fayette, Grandchildren, Brooke and Brady Tucker, Judson Stough, Morganne and Elijah Snow, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wedenesday, May 28, 2014 from the Bowen Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in the New River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Bowen Funreal Home of Winfield serving the Stough family.

Mr. Melvin Flippo

Mr. Melvin Flippo went home to be with his best friend Jesus on May 23, 2014. He was 97 years, 3 months, and 3 days old. Mr. Flippo was a Lifetime member of the Freewill Baptist Church, and a highly decorated WWII United States Army veteran serving during the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sandy and Samantha Westbrook Flippo, a son, William E. Flippo, grandson, Bobby Flippo Jr., 6 brothers and 7 sisters. Survivors include his wife of almost 75 years Dena Reed Flippo, sons, Billy (Nancy) Flippo, Bobby (Beckie) Flippo, and Tony (Kathy) Flippo, grandchildren Pam Carlson, Liz Aldridge, Tommy Flippo, Jane Kennedy, Tina Shaw, Andrea Bennett, Angela Gustafson, Nigel Flippo, Dylan Flippo, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Flippo, and a host of great and great great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church with Military honors presented at the graveside. Bro. Mike Beckon Officiatiing. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm (service time) on Monday at the church. Justyn Carlson, Scott Carlson, Christopher Shaw, Dylan Flippo, Bradley Aldridge and Eirick Gustafson will serve as pallbearers. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Flippo family. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Mr. Flippo. 

Mr. James M. Mullins

Mr. James Marcus Mullins, age 85 of the twin community, fomerly from Pound, VA, passed away on Sunday, MAy 18, 2014 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Patton and Martha Alice Mullins, wife, Verns Judy Mullins, son, James Patton Mullins, and a grandson, Ricky Allen Mullins, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Mr. Mullins is survived by 3 daughters, Marvella June Kerndle of Haleyville, Mary Jane Mullins of Guin, and Vivian Rachel Ray of Abingdon, VA, Neice , Cheryl Tompkins of VA, sisters, Hester Reed of Texarkana, Rosalee Tompkins of VA, and Joy Noles of PA, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.  Funeral Services for Mr. Mullins were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May, 21, at Baker Funeral Home in Pound VA. Local Arrangements and transportation provided by Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield.

Mable B. Weaver McDonald

Mrs. Mable B. Weaver McDonald age 89 of Winfield passed away Friday May 23, 2014 in the Marengo County Nursing Home in Linden, AL, Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Robert McDonald, parents, William Henry and Myrtle J. McCaleb Weaver, granddaughter, Mary Cole, son-n-law Davy Allen Tidwell, 2 brothers, James & Hershel Weaver and a sister Nina Hill. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her family, 5 daughters, Veneshia Harris, Deloris (Tommy) Deas, Lanetta (Steve) Fowler, Gwen Tidwell, Vera (Ricky) Dodd, 3 sons, Owens (Tammy) McDonald, Chesley (Manuela) McDonald, Henry (Margena) McDonald, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be held on Sunday May 25, 2014 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Morris Cemetery near the Whites Chapel community. Brother C.W. Box and Tuscon Stovall will be the officiating ministers. Bowen Funeral Home serving the McDonald family.

Mr. Bartlett

Mr. Harlan Wayne Bartlett, age 50 of Winfield, passed away on April 22, 2014 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Rena Allred of Winfield, sisters, Jean Penly of Gadsden, and Joyce Emerson of Red Bay, a brother, Larry Travis Emerson of Red Bay, and a host of other relatives and friends.  A memorial service for Mr. Bartlett will be announced at a later date.   Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Bartlett Family.
