Mr. Hermon Edwin Nelson, age 72 of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Mr. Nelson was a member of First Baptist Church of Winfield and a 1963 graduate of Marion County High School. He was the owner and operator of The Gold Connection and was retired from 3M and North River Mines. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Stephen Nelson and Willie Edwina Thomas Nelson Gann, a stepfather Marvin C. Gann, Jr., and 3 brothers, Thomas Kent Nelson, Clyde Stephen Nelson Jr., and Robert Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Joy Perry Nelson of Winfield, a son, Scot Nelson (Treva) of Winfield, a daughter, Holly Nelson Hogue (Todd) of Decatur, two granddaughters, Tatum Ophelia Hogue of Decatur and Anna-Kate Nelson of Winfield, three sisters Wanda White of Winfield, Clydene Dyer of Moody, and Marlene Goodwin of Twin, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 10 from the Winfield First Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 9 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers. the family request that donations be made to Winfield First Baptist Church Building Fund. Jim Burt, Daniel Harkness, Ray McGaha, Ronnie Moss, James Pate, and Jimmy Pate will serve as active pallbearers. The Men's Adult II Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
