Mrs. Pearl Ola (Burkhalter) Atkinson, age 87 of Brilliant, formerly of Monroe, LA, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Fayette Long Term Care Center. Pearl is a 1945 graduate of Pine Tree High School in Longview, TX. She retired from Safeway Grocery Company after 25 years of service and worked for KNOE Channel 8 in Monroe, LA after her retirement from Safeway. She was a member of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe, LA for 38 years. Pearl is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Clarice (Weaver) Burkhalter; her husband, Colon W. Atkinson, three sisters, Margie Willett, Rosemary Burkhalter and Shirley Burkhalter, and two brothers, Odell and Glen Burkhalter. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Johnny) Fowler, and Sandra Proctor of Briliant, AL, and a son, Lenn Stephenson, also of Brilliant, AL. Grandchildren are, Shannon Gelpi, Mary Gentry, Misty Byrd, Kay Wiginton, Wendy Meeks, Justin Fowler and Jessy Fowler, great grandchildren, Ryan Gentry, Chasity Hisbon, Lane Stanford, Karagan Stanford, Colton White, Cloie Johnston, and Camden Johnston, and a sister, Sharon (Bill) Taack of Las Vegas, NV. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Sunday at the funeral home. Brother Drew Manley will be the officiating minister. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 2, 2015 in the Riverview Cemetery, in Monroe, LA. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Atkinson family.
