Obituaries

Mr. James C."Jim" Mattox Jr

Mr. James C. Mattox Jr., better known as "Jim", age 84 of Pensacola FL, fomerly of Guin, AL, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in Pensacola.  Mr. Mattox was raised in Guin, AL, attended the University of North Alabama, and Samford University School of Pharmacy.  He was a  United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. Mr. Mattox worked for Pfeiffers's Drugs in Pensacola from 1957 until his retirement in 1993, and continued part time employment for some time after. Mr. Mattox was an avid golfer, taking every available opportunity to play, he enjoyed boating, fishing, and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Mattox was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Sr. and Lillian Bigler Mattox, 2 brothers, Charles and Robert Mattox, and a sister, Helen Mattox Hall.  He is survived by his wife, Dortha Dean Dillard Mattox, children, Emily Mattox McGiboney, (John) of Birmingham, Mitzi Mattox Childs, (Rick) of Fairhope, and Rebecca Mattox Gwarjanski, of Birmingham, grandchildren, Lane McGiboney (Robbie), Sarah Childs, Daniel Childs, Jacob Gwarjanski, and Jordan Gwarjanski, great grandchildren, Ellen and Mason McGiboney.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Miliatary Honors will be presented at the graveside.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (service time) on Tuesday at the funeral home.  In Lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 6479 Caroline St. Suite B, Milton, FL 32570.   A memorial service will be held Saturday August 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from Perdido Bay UMC on Innerarity Rd.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Huguley

Mrs. Mary Ruth Huguley, age 88 of Hamilton, fomerly of Brilliant, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Marion Regional Nursing Facility in Hamilton.  She was born on July 22, 1926 in Beckley, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Elmer Beckett and Carrie Burleson Beckett.  She was preceded in death by her husband Charles M. Huguley Jr. and a son Steven D. Huguley. Mrs. Huguley is survived by her daughters,  Myrtle Ingram of Hamilton and Karen A. Smith of Palm Coast, FL, Grandchildren, Greg Ingram of Hamilton, Kristy Crosby of Lake, MS, Melissa Harris of Hamilton, Amanda Baughn of Hamilton, Amber Smith of Palm Coast, FL, and Jeremy Smith of Palm Coast, FL, great grandchildren, Kylie Ingram, Charlie Ingram, Justin Crosby, Valyn Crosby, Shelby Harris, Sydney Baughn, and Carson Baughn, 2 sisters, Dean Sims of Winfield, and Edna Holcomb of Carrolton, AL, and a brother, W.R. Beckett of Hamilton.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Brilliant Memorial Gardens.  Shane Harris officiating. Mrs. Mary Lou Tilley

Mrs. Mary Lou Tilley, age 93 of Winfield, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Fayette. Mrs. Tilley was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, and retired from Winfield Cotton Mill with over 40 years of service.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Biba Pate Webster, her husband, Glenn Porter Tilley, sisters, Hassie Lee Perry, Ilabea Smith, Lavern Wilburn, Ernestine Loftis, Jquan Bull, and a brother Troy Webster.  She is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Robert) Bull, a granddaughter, Cassandra (Mike) Renfroe, great granddaughter, LaVette DeLoach, great grandson, Glendon Renfroe, great great grandchildren, Lunden, Caden, and Anna-Brooke DeLoach, a sister, Euna Mae Marshall, a brother, Clinton (Nina) Webster, sister-in-law, Eloise Potts, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16th from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Harmony Grove Cemetery.  Bro. C.W. Box and Rev. Tim MeHerg will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Tilley family. 

Mr. George Maurice Haney

Mr.  George Maurice Haney, age 98 passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the Kemp Meadows Assisted Living facility in Winfield.  Mr.  Haney was a World War II veteran and avid farmer.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Maudine Regan Haney, his parents, George R. & Nanna Wolff Haney and a brother Robert Haney.  He is survived by his son, Maurice (Carolyn) Haney of Columbus, MS, grandchildren,  Keith Haney of Corinth, MS and Lyn Haney Thomas of Littleton NH., special caregivers,  Judy Hubbert and Jane Campbell.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Bro. C.W. Box will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Haney family.

Mrs. Betty Sue Wood

Mrs. Betty Sue Wood, age 70 of Winfield, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 at her residence.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Lilly Eugenia Burleson Leechwood, and a son Kenneth Brooks Sizemore.  Betty is survived by 2 sons, Keith and Kevin Sizemore, 2 sisters, Helen Mills and Ruth Thatenhurst, and grandchildren, Brooks Sizemore and Ashley S. Webb.  A memorial service for Betty will be arranged by the family at a later time.  In Lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Mrs. Wood's Family.
