Obituaries

Mrs. Dot South

Mrs. Dorothy Payne South, better known as Dot, age 96 of Winfield, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.  A graveside service for Mrs. South will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at Winfield City Cemetery.  Bro. Wayne Overton Will officiate.  Mrs. South was preceded in death by her husband Bob South and a brother Billy Payne.  She is survived by her sisters, Betty Vanslager and Louise Carpenter, and a brother, Buddy Payne, all of California.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the South family. 

Colin David Norris

Colin David Norris, age 19 of Winfield, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015.  Colin was born on August 1, 1996.  He was a 2015 graduate of Winfield City High School and was currently serving as an Ambassador at Bevill State Community College.  

He was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church, and was employed by Rick Bolling at Hospital Discount Pharmacy in Vernon. 

Colin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Earnest and step grandfather, Bill McDaniel. He is survived by his parents, John and Dana Earnest Norris, brothers, Tyler and Gavin Norris, all of Winfield, grandparents, Deanna McDaniel of Bear Creek and David and Lana Norris of Winfield, aunts and uncles, Christy (Kenny) Lloyd, and Jason (Hallie) Norris of Winfield, cousins, Molly Norris, Kade Lloyd and Karson Lloyd all of Winfield, and his girlfriend, Shelby Pate of Millport. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21st from the Winfield First Baptist Church. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Wednesday at the church. Burial to follow in the Old Union Cemetery. Brother David Crowe will be the officiating minister.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Colin David Norris Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Citizens Bank of Winfield.

Mrs. Lisa Chaffin

Mrs. Lisa Kay Raburn Chaffin, age 53 of Winfield, passed away on Monday, October 12th, 2015.  Lisa was a 1980 graduate of Winfield High School, she earned her Registered Nursing degree from Northwest Community College, and was E.R. Director in Birmingham and Winfield hospitals for many years.  She is survived by her husband, Ronny Chaffin, sons, Gill Chaffin and Chris Chaffin, a daughter, Melanie Carter, her parents, Ted and Beverly Nichols Raburn, grandchildren, Taylor Carter, Leland Chaffin, & Parker Chaffin, brothers, Dewayne (Tracy) Raburn, and Michael Raburn, a sister, Cathy Raburn, (Tamera), her father-in-law, Bobby Chaffin, sister-in-law, Donna Smith Raburn, nieces and nephews, Alex Raburn, Tess Raburn, John Raburn, Kaleb Blackburn, Nathan Bowling, & Madison Bowling, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Siloam Cemetery. Bro. Paul Gray will be the officiating minister.  The visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Chaffin and Raburn family.

Mrs. JoAnn Stanford Rasbury Hayes

Mrs. JoAnn Stanford Rasbury Hayes, age 82 of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Rose Manor Healthcare in Haleyville.  JoAnn was born on December 4, 1932 in Beaverton, AL to Murray L. and Lillian Weeks Stanford.  Mrs. Hayes was a 1953 graduate of Sulligent High School where she played basketball and was a member of the National Beta Club.  She married Billie V. Rasbury on June 30, 1951.  They had 2 daughters, Dawn and Cindy.  She worked the Rasbury family wood yard after getting married.  She then worked as a secretary at 3M in Guin.  After leaving 3M, she worked at Reltoc Manufacturing for approx. 7 years.  Until her retirement, she was the office manager in the Rasbury Logging business.  She married H.H. Hayes in September of 1999.  They resided in Guin for 13 years.  JoAnn joined Winfield First Baptist Church on August 15, 1971, where she was a member of the Adult II Ladies Sunday School Class, always taking an active roll in Discipleship Training, WMU, and a nursery worker for many years.  She was a member of the Booklovers Club and Order of the Eastern Star.  She was preceded in death by her parents,  husbands, Billie. V. Rasbury and H.H. Hayes, a daughter, Cindy Rasbury Pate, a sister, Nell Henley, and 3 brothers, Charles, James and Billy E. Stanford.  She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Clapp (Carl) of Winfield, a sister, Ruth Ethington of Birmingham, grandchildren, Clark Sanford (Amy),  Kyle Sanford (Ashley), Lacey McCaleb (Derek), and Christie Pate, great grandchildren, Carson McCaleb, Ty Sanford, Cashton McCaleb, and Jack Sanford, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th from the Winfield First Baptist Church.  Dr. Charles Ballew and Bro. Don Graham will officiate.  The visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. (service time) on Tuesday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Winfield First Baptist Church Building Fund.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Hayes family.   

Ms. Cindy Rasbury Pate

Ms. Cynthia Rasbury Pate, better known as "Cindy", age 53 of Winfield, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at her residence.  Cindy was a class of 1980 graduate of Winfield City High School, and  earned a bachelors degree from the University of North Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.  She was employed with the Citizens Bank of Winfield for over 31 years, president of the Winfield High School Alumni Association, treasurer of the Eastern Star Chapter #208 of Winfield, and past president of the Modern Culture Club.  Cindy loved her family, always striving to be a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her father, Billie Rasbury.  Cindy is survived by her mother, JoAnn Stanford Hayes, of Winfield, a sister, Dawn Clapp (Carl) of Winfield, daughters, Lacy Pate McCaleb (Derek) of Northport, and Christina Pate of Winfield, grandsons, Cashton and Carson McCaleb of Northport, and nephews, Clark Sanford (Amy) of Winfield, and Kyle Sanford (Ashley) of Northport, and a host of other relatives, friends, church family, co-workers, and her beloved dog Tinkerbell .  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11th, 2015 from the Winfield First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Crews United Methodist cemetery near Sulligent.  Bro. Wendell Dodd and Dr. Paul Murphy will officiate.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (service time) on Sunday at the church.  Jimmy Pate, Carl Clapp, Derek McCaleb, Clark Sanford, Kyle Sanford, Steve Sizemore, Clay Rasbury, Savelle Rasbury, Chuck Stanford, Allen Stanford, and Prince Brown will serve as active pallbearers, honorary pallbearers will be the WCHS Class of 1980, and employees of the Citizens Bank of Winfield.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Cindy Pate Memorial Scholarship fund at the Citizens Bank of Winfield.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Pate family.
