Obituaries

Mr. Ivan R. Ganey

Mr. Ivan Ray Ganey, age 69 of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 at his residence.  Mr. Ganey was a 1963 graduate of Brilliant High School and worked most of his life in the coal mining industry.  In 2010, Ivan was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame.  Ivan was the founder of the Brilliant Park Board, serving as the president for 16 years since 1998, and now has a field there named in his honor.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward and Rushie Abbott Ganey, and a brother, Charles Edward Ganey.  He is survived by his wife, Sue Youngblood Ganey, daughters, Angie Gardner (Steven) of Northport, and Brittney Bowles (Bradley) of Twin, a son, David Ganey of Winfield, grandchildren, Savanna, Bailey, Abbey Grace, McKinley, and Gracey Ray, a sister, Linda Franks of Winfield, sister in  law, Bonnie Ganey, nephews, Pete and Tim Ganey, and a niece, Katrina Franks.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday from the Bowen Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in White Springs Cemetery. Jerry Self officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m (service time) on Saturday at the funeral home.  Tim Ganey, Pete Ganey, Jim Starns, Brian Abbott, Darrell Abbott, and Ronnie McCluskey will serve as pallbearers.   Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Ganey family. 

Jerry Dell Gilbert

Mr. Jerry Dell Gilbert, age 78 of Jasper passed away on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at Ridgewood Healthcare center in Jasper.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Nella Dean Gilbert, a son, Jerry Alan Gilbert, brothers, Almus and Willie Gilbert, and a sister, Virginia G. Jett.  He is survived by his son, Alton Gilbert of Jasper, a daughter, Tina Gilbert Myers of Birmingham,, 2 brothers, Ray Gilbert of Bankston, and David S. Gilbert of Huntsville, a sister, Joyce Gilbert of League City TX,  grandchildren, Ginger Sweeney Hitchler, Kristi Bolen Waddle, and  Sarah Payton Myers, great grandchildren, Kenlie James Hitchler, Maddie Klaire Hitchler, and Karley Blair Waddle, and many other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 at 1:00 p.m. from Bowen Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in West AL Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. (service time) on Friday At the funeral home. Mr, Johnny M. Bray

Mr. Johnny M. Bray, age 71 of Brilliant, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Bray was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence R. and Lora Mae King Bray, his wife of 47 years, Sandra Sue Franks Bray, a son, John Linley Bray, and 3 brothers, Bobby, James and Billy Bray.  He is survived by his daughters, Jimmie Sue Finch (Tim) of Brilliant, & Lora Michelle Cagle of Brilliant, sons, Christopher Scott Bray (Renee) of Hartselle, & John Linley Bray Jr. of Brilliant, grandchildren, Megan Bolton, Cody Finch (Taylor), Daxton Cagle, Morgan Cagle, Grayson Bray and Elliott Bray, great grandchildren, Madilyn and Brayleigh Bolton, Brantley Cagle, Aspen Finch, & Kopen Cagle, 3 sisters, Betty Morton (James) of Jasper, Margie Miles (Jimmy) of Carbon Hill, and Sheila Pschirer (Marvin) of Carbon Hill, and a brother, Clarence Bray (Martha) of Huntsville.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Brilliant Memorial Gardens.  Bro. Terry May officiating.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield Serving the Bray family.   

Mr. Norman David Mitchell

Mr. Norman David Mitchell, age 68 of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.  David was a member and deacon of the Winfield First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Mitchell, daughter, Katrina Mitchell Smith, and 3 brothers, Jerry, Lamon, and Lymon Mitchell.  He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Mitchell Hayes (Danny) of Fayette, grandchildren, Monica Smith, Justin Hayes, David Hayes (Kathryn), and Kayla Hayes, one great grandchild, Trina Reed, 2 brothers, Willie Mitchell (Janice) of Covington, GA, and Dale Mitchell (Linda) of Fayette, 2 sisters in law, Sylvia Moore (Danny) of Northport, and Elaine Mitchell of Birmingham, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec., 15 From the Winfield First Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Fayette Co. Dr. Paul Murphy and Dr. Charles Ballew will officiate.  The visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. (service time) on Monday at the Church.  In lieu of Flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Winfield First Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of David Mitchell.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Mitchell Family. 

Charles Edward Ingram

Mr. Charles Edward Ingram age 75 of Hamilton, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his residence.  Mr. Ingram was born November 25, 1939, to  Carrol and Elsie Smith Ingram of Winfield.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Bruce and Sam Ingram and a sister Betty Ingram Wolfe.  He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, son, Greg (Candace) Ingram, of Hamilton, daughters Kristy (Lane) Crosby of Lake, MS, Melissa (Shane) Harris of Hamilton, grandchildren, Kylie Ingram, Charlie Mark Ingram, Justin Crosby, Valyn Crosby and Shelby Harris.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (service time) on Thursday at the funeral home.  Brother Bobby Duncan will be the officiating minister.  Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Hamilton.   Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Ingram family.
